Total @#$%& but incredible drummer. He should long be dead by now. I'll be sad when and if it happens, but it shouldn't really be surprising.

Beware Mr. Baker is a great documentary. I actually love how much he doesn't give a @#$%& and is just a total dick to people.
I dunno...I find a certain kind of gruffness/grumpiness endearing, but Ginger goes WAY beyond that. Brilliant musician, but repulsive as a person.

I saw Ginger 6 years ago. He was booked for 2 90 minute shows. I went to first show. Played 30 minutes, threatened to die on stage. Took a 20 minute break came back, finished the set while repeating threat. Recording from 2nd show was similar,

How, exactly, does one threaten to die on stage? Just curious.

How on earth can that be a redeeming feature, in anybody's language?

Stick a pen through his heart and spill it all over the stage - or in Ginger's case a drumstick.

Well, when my family moved from the countryside into the vally of the river Rhine (Germany), my sister and I got one kick in the ass as far as the music en vogue was concerned.

Like...

"Do you like Cream?"

(my sister) "Eeer, who?"

"!!???? WTF! ?? ... you mean, you don't know CREAM?????"

That was about 1970 or something, so it was time we really had to wake up, hehehe

Heard most of their records from then on on a regular basis - essential nutrition for teenagers then ... Even in the local teen-disco organized by the local church they played "White Room" among other gems by the time!

Many thanks to stone66 for the tip for "Beware of Mr. Baker" and the interview with Kofi!

Read the latter, saw the former again just last night.

I have a really deep respect for the man. I'm in awe of his talent. I can only guess his hardshipy which made him the man he is.

And I cincerely hope that he stays with us some more time longer.

And it he doesn't - like we all will pass sooner or later - I'm sure he will be doing it his style.

Get well really soon, Ginger!

Well thats good. I just went through the whole Cream catalogue so I'm glad he's doing ok or at least still alive. Its gonna take a lot for me to finally listen to Ginger Baker's Air Force record.

Well, let’s hope his recovery continues and you can put it off for another few years!

Love Ginger; his drumming and grumpiness. He’s living modestly out in Canterbury somewhere.

I see him in the great tradition of English eccentrics. The British Isles seemed to nurture such people, don't know if that still applies. There was an entire generation of eccetric British drummers (including Charlie, in his own way.)
In America, eccentric behavior is usually a put-on.
Making sweeping generalizations, of course.

And I understand, has been helped out financially by Eric Clapton.
