I've sent an inquiry to the venue but they seem to suffer from the AXS disease, i.e. they didn't answer
(by the why still got a spare VIP/soundcheck ticket for Birmingham (see: ticket trader)

Still no news on the soundcheck, it's frickin ridiculous.

4.30 pm

But it was a real soundcheck. You could see how they rehearsed some songs, intros and sounds. All in all it wasn't very long. I guess about 20 Minutes?

Mccartney for instance does sell soundcheck tickets but in fact you get a full concert with 10 songs in the afternoon for the money.

I wouldn't buy a soundcheck ticket for ronnie again because there's too less value for the money. but that's just my opinion, others may have a different view :-)

I just received an email:

"Please arrive at the venue promptly for 4:30PM. Head to the main entrance where you will be greeted with a VIP laminate and exclusive piece of merch. You will then be escorted through to watch Ronnie and his Wild Five soundcheck.

After the soundcheck has finished please leave the venue but hold on to your laminates as it will get you priority access back in after doors are opened."

I'm only expecting 20 mins, so won't be disappointed. I really bought it for the ease of getting a second row ticket.

Had a great night. Ronnie was his usual self and although it’s clear that he’s not a natural front man he sure made the most of it. He seemed much more comfortable when Imelda May was on stage and he could take a step away from the limelight. His playing was good and he paid a fitting tribute to Chuck.

He’s got a great band, they really rocked out. A shout out to the support act Jack Broadbent who was very good. It was worth getting to the venue early to see him.

A few sentences can say it all - whish I could write so short and nice and precise about a gig.

Off the top of my head,

Jack was around 19.50 finished around 2045.

Ronnie was 21.00 and to be honest can't remember what time he finished, it did state 23.00 on the message board outside the venue.

Fantastic gig, loved every minute. The soundcheck experience was my first, I can fully justify the ticket price. Several standouts for me. Ronnie's playing on Wee Wee Hours, and the whole band's rendition of Carol. Nothing can touch the version on Ya Yas, but yesterday .... Ronnie ROCKED !!

Oh...so he knocked off 20 minutes or so early then?
No stamina, these young ones.

I noticed the staff were quite keen to try and stop people videoing the concert.

Thought it was a bit pointless myself.

Ronnie Wood, Symphony Hall, Birmingham - review

Flashes of musical brilliance are to be expected when a Rolling Stone takes to any stage, and they were no doubt delivered by Ronnie Wood last night.

By Rory Smith | Music

The star took to the stage at Birmingham's Symphony Hall for the show which paid tribute to the late Chuck Berry - and promoted Ronnie's latest album Mad Lad.

It was fun, it got toes tapping, but will it leave musos reelin' and rockin' for years to come? I'm not so sure.

Whether it be the lack of a second guitar to help fill out the sound, a role that Ronnie himself has perfected during his time in the Faces and the Rolling Stones, or the overall looseness of the band, it was apparent that the rock icon's familiarity behind a sunburst Fender Stratocaster was almost met with an unfamiliarity behind a microphone.

Backing Ronnie last night was his band the 'Wild Five' - starring pianist Ben Waters who played a vital role with lightning quick licks and twinkling fingertips that transitioned each song.

Ronnie himself, who strolled through the audience to get to the stage - brushing off females like it was 1975, proved his worth on guitar in case there was ever any doubt, however.

A slightly weathered voice was submerged by hard-hitting 12-bar riffs taken straight from Chuck's songbook.

Both the big hits and the lesser-known Chuck Berry songs formed part of 72-year-old Ronnie's upbringing and it was clear to see - both literally and figuratively - he could play them with his eyes closed.

Powerhouse singer Imelda May, who features on Mad Lad with her raw, bluesey vocals, was a welcome addition to the group and allowed Ronnie to take a step back and get the 2,000 strong audience on their feet.

"No one can play like Chuck Berry," he said. A humble admission that may have been in the minds of many.

"But hopefully I can at least get you back to the original recordings and get the next generation onto his music."

Following a brilliant performance from Ronnie on his beloved lap steel guitar, the jacket came off and the band was finally moving in time for Carol, arguably the best song of the night.

A swift exit from the stage was matched by an equally quick return for the encore to culminate with Johnny B. Goode.

At this point, venue ushers struggled to keep people in their seats as a swarm of fans flooded to the front.

Despite a somewhat shuffling start, being a Stones' throw away from a musical legend was an experience in itself.

He did? Is he just talking about Jesse Ed on the last Faces tour?
