I engineered the Stones recording of the Beggars Banquet album, with Jimmy Miller producing.
Since I had worked with them previously on Satanic Majesties, Between The Buttons, and the
Flowers albums, they felt fairly relaxed about me being around them with a camera. –EK

I'm kind of thinking that the band picture with Brian was from April '69 if that was indeed when they were recording Midnight Rambler. It's odd the recording dates for Midnight Rambler list February-March 1969, but Mick and Keith didn't write the song until they holidayed in Positano, Italy in April 1969.

No they went earlier than April to Positano, late 1968 or very early 1969.

Mathijs

Pretty sure that late 68 early 69 they were on holiday in South America (when the name Glimmer Twins) was born.

Correct. In late 68, early 69 they were in Brazil where they wrote "Country Honk." In April 1969, they went to Positano Italy where they wrote "Midnight Rambler," "Monkey Man."

Here's footage from a film Mick and Keith took part in while in Italy called "Umano Non Umano."

April 1969: Rome, Italy. Shootings for the film Umano Non Umano! (Human, Non Human!). Director: Mario Schifano. Producer: Anita Pallenberg & Ettore Rosboch. Collage-movie, incl. segments with MJ & KR:

- Street Fighting Man (MJ/KR) -promo-like; MJ lip-synching and dancing

- Instrumental (KR) -KR playing on a moog synthesizer

Note: This rare movie was premiered 1972.

And Keith on the Moog:

These photos are all terrific, but man Eddie Kramer saying "I worked with them on the FLOWERS album" really threw me for a loop.

Mathijs is just convincing himself of that view cos he thinks Brian didn't step foot in Olympic after February 1969. This despite Mick, Bill and photos by Ethan Russell telling us otherwise.

Say wot? I never said such a thing.

They did record demo's for Rambler already in late February at Olympics. They also stated that Positano was freezing cold, which I would not place in April.

Mick Jagger at Olympic Studios, London 1967.

"The Stones sessions would invariably last all night, partly due to the nature of the way things were
recorded in those days utilizing the studio as a rehearsal and recording facility. Many of the
ideas just took time to develop and hammer out until all the parts jelled. Mick is listening to the
band working on the track and song structure, which would always take some time."
~ Eddie Kramer
"Charlie Watts drumming was steeped in Jazz and Blues, from his early days with the Cyril Davies Band to the time
he signed on with the Stones, Charlie represented the epitome of cool, even in his dress code which was something
to behold. He was the most congenial guy in the band and we shared a love of Jazz, in particular, Charlie Parker."

~ Eddie Kramer

When did they start to get the run of the studio? In the early days, studio time was very expensive and hard to schedule. But here they seem to be able to set up and camp out for weeks at a time. How did that process unfold?

Has anyone posted more from Munich 74 yet? The one with Giorgio on Bass? I cant find it; know I have it somewhere.

The real treasures of studio pics are IMO Jamaica '73, Munich '74, anything from the Great Guitarist Hunt '75, and the Undercover sessions.

This is interesting.
First off he has Bill Wyman on autoharp on "Let it Bleed" too.
On "Live with Me" I thought it had been Leon Russell on piano.
And I see that on "Rambler" Mick had originally listed 'Drums by Charlie and Brian" before changing it to "Percussion - Brian". So I wonder if we may be hearing Brian more prominently in the mix w/o realizing it.
