Mick Jagger makes for interesting rhythm guitar. He was a little less skilled dexterity-wise, but a top songwriter and sophisticated musician. The combo IMO makes for this type of guitar track that I have heard drummers do; drummers who play a few chords, and have great timing.
It's very nonsense playing, rhythmic. And stays in the pocket. On live "Fingerprint File" Jagger was great. Stop Breaking Down", "Silver Train", and also that outtake...I think it's "Hi-way Child". Chugga chugga

1. Never heard of a Sunn amp.

2. Not sure about that bass either. Nice Beatle boots though, Bill.

3. I see quantities of "coke" already showing up in the studio! spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

I'm kind of thinking that the band picture with Brian was from April '69 if that was indeed when they were recording Midnight Rambler. It's odd the recording dates for Midnight Rambler list February-March 1969, but Mick and Keith didn't write the song until they holidayed in Positano, Italy in April 1969.

No they went earlier than April to Positano, late 1968 or very early 1969.

Two more from the Sympathy for the Devil session, from "The Rolling Stones, On Camera, Off Guard"

Photographer Tony Gale was invited to Olympic Studios to take pictures while the Rolling Stones were recording the track "Sympathy for the Devil" with producer Jimmy Miller, and were also being filmed for a movie called One Plus One by the avant-garde film director Jean-Luc Godard.

Tony does not remember too much from the session itself other than to say it was late at night. His notes from the photo session, however, state that the Stones were recording and listening to playbacks of a new song called "I'm A Man", which became a working title for Sympathy for the Devil.

Just a matter of hours after these photographs were taken, the studio roof caught fire at 4.15 am on 11th June after an arc lamp overheated. Mick Jagger commented in the NME dated 15 June 1968; "The fire brigade was so thorough in extinguishing the blaze, our Hammond organ and all our electrical equipment was completely drenched. The film sequence will have to be retaken." But luckily, Bill Wyman and Jimmy Miller salvaged the all important master tapes.

I see Brian still has the canobeerophone...

Pretty sure that late 68 early 69 they were on holiday in South America (when the name Glimmer Twins) was born.

Mathijs is just convincing himself of that view cos he thinks Brian didn't step foot in Olympic after February 1969. This despite Mick, Bill and photos by Ethan Russell telling us otherwise.

Eric's photos are most likely from April or so. This is when Brian's Ceylon haircut with fringe grew out and he had a slight parting etc etc ala the Ethan session in late May 1969.

...

Mick etc first went to Positano in... 1967.

That's March 15, 1969. Probably one of the last occasions Brian turned up at Olympic Studios.

Brian turned up at Olympic well in to May 1969.

Correct. In late 68, early 69 they were in Brazil where they wrote "Country Honk." In April 1969, they went to Positano Italy where they wrote "Midnight Rambler," "Monkey Man."

Here's footage from a film Mick and Keith took part in while in Italy called "Umano Non Umano."

April 1969: Rome, Italy. Shootings for the film Umano Non Umano! (Human, Non Human!). Director: Mario Schifano. Producer: Anita Pallenberg & Ettore Rosboch. Collage-movie, incl. segments with MJ & KR:

- Street Fighting Man (MJ/KR) -promo-like; MJ lip-synching and dancing

- Instrumental (KR) -KR playing on a moog synthesizer

Note: This rare movie was premiered 1972.
