wow. Episode 2 is full of interesting history. Delmore Brothers, Gene Autry, Roy Acuff, Minnie Pearl, and that wacko Dr. Brinkley..

not to mention the sad Carter family history..

Yes, it's excellent.

Burns usually does a nice job on whatever subject - Civil War, baseball, Jazz, etc.

Excellent.

I was watching episode #2 on tv the other night, and my wife (whose not much of a country music fan) strolled through the room a couple of times and said "wow this is a long documentary".
I replied back "brace yourself, this is only episode #2 of an eight part series". smiling smiley

Thanks bye bye johnny for the pbs link - now maybe I'll be able to watch it all in peace and quiet without any interruptions! thumbs up

Glad that this is posted. My wife and I are enthralled by this doc. I am not a fan of modern country music but the roots of country include blues, gospel, and more. We’re looking forward to the rest of the episodes. Learning about the Carters, Bill Monroe, Hank Williams, it gives me a deeper appreciation for Nashville and country music.

It gives me a deeper understanding of the origins of the music, and introduces me to characters I was barely aware of, like Jimmie Rodgers. Even if you don't care for country music, it's a fantastic history lesson.

Watching it for educational purposes only. It's a compellingly told story, but unlike Ken's Jazz series (which I'd really like to watch again one of these days), it's not making me want to explore the music more deeply.

in episode 2, Ray Benson, from Asleep at the Wheel, was talking about Bob Wills.

Benson described Wills as being a charismatic, animated performer, a lot like the Mick Jagger of the time..
cool smiley

Yes, I noted that. Ken Burns is a national,
perhaps international, treasure, much like the Stones. I don't think he's ever made a bad film. Wish he would take on a project like the history of rock n roll, but maybe that would be too international in scope.

Series resumes Sunday night through Wednesday.

I thought about that a lot. Get some rock and roll interviews before they're gone. Chuck/Fats gone. Jerry Lee & Little Richard, get to them with a microphone quick. I love the Country episodes, but wish Ken Burns could have done one on World War I. I think few people, including myself, really understand the breadth of that conflict, or its origins. The world was one way before the war, a whole new ball game after.

Good to see musicians like Marty Stuart, Carlene Carter, Roseanne Cash and Rodney Crowell being featured in the series. Love hearing their insights and stories. Great series.

This is an amazing series, like all Ken Burns, deep and thorough.
I already love country music/Americana/alt country, and there are folks in here that I'm learning about that I hadn't really known before: Ernest Tubb, Jimmie Rodgers, Wanda Jackson.

Hooked.

I'm way behind on it, I tuned in during the end of one of the episodes that ended with Hank Williams. What a sad story.

Trifle longwinded n places, but I enjoy it. Burns has a talent for finding old photos. The interviews are great. I'm learning a lot.
