Maybe a better idea would have been a compilation album of 10 - 12 tracks...
just the good stuff from Mick's solo albums.
Minus the crappy tunes.

I'd be hard pressed to come up with 10-12, and not just saying that because I can't stand Mick Jagger solo. Even when trying to be objective, coming up with 4-5 seems impossible.
If it were up to me, a 12" extended single version of Lets Work would be enough to sum it all up, and maybe as a bonus for cd include several different remixes.

i gotta admit this was worth a chuckle on a sunny sunday afternoon: guy who can't stand something stating "objectively" that the thing he can't stand is really crappy.

Sometimes it's an honest opinion. Other times I think we were all traumatized by what Keith likes to call WWIII. Many of us stuck with the narrative.

I'd like to see Tokyo 1988 and the Deep Down Under special see the light of day along with Webster Hall. I thought Steve Salas was great on guitar in 2001/2002, but what I've seen and heard of El Rey was sort of lackluster (apart from his guitar work). I'm willing to be proved wrong, of course. It's a shame Salas wasn't playing on GODDESS IN THE DOORWAY. As it stands, Wyclef Jean played the best guitar on the album. Townshend was a let down here as on SHE'S THE BOSS. Joe Perry was okay (particularly "Too Far Gone"). Kravitz always gives me a headache. His heart is in the right place, but I need ibuprofen when I hear him play. Cindy Blackman is a great drummer.

I know Checking on My Baby was included on Mick's "Very Best of", but now might be a good time to officially release the rest of the blues covers backed by the Red Devils.

MICK JAGGER & THE RED DEVILS

Better than Blue and Lonesome imo. thumbs up

I don't know about better, but I agree a release of The Red Devils sessions and Mick (and Ronnie and Charlie) with Gary Moore at The Hammersmith Odeon in 1992 would be a good idea.

slow and jam like compared to Blue & Lonesome ….

Just bought an original Wandering Spirit LP for next to nothing. Horrible cover but what a great album it is...

Can't imagine there would be much of a market for Mick's solo albums.
I guess the royalty cheques might pay for a night out on the town once a year.

It might be worthwhile for georgelicks to share Mick's sales vs. Keith's sales. They both are more successful together, but fans sometimes act like Mick as a solo artist was a flop and Keith was a success. We might prefer Keith, but that doesn't change the fact that Mick outsells him. You can't just take Keith's word for these things.

As for the Red Devils sessions, judging the quality of "Checking Up on My Baby" on THE VERY BEST OF MICK JAGGER vs. the circulating bootlegs, I would like to hear a proper release of Mick and The Red Devils. Is it better than BLUE AND LONESOME? No, but it's useful as a run-up to it the same as the blues set with Gary Moore's Midnight Blues Band.

Can only agree with you here, Going Down with Gary Moore really smoked, unfortunately so far only a truncated soundboard of this tune from the BBC broadcast has popped up as the taper started the recording a bit late (hell, was he the only one who taped the show from the radio back then?) and the rest ain't too shabby either.

And if it really must be a 1988 solo show, the Corner Hotel Melbourne club show would be my favourite - excellent set list and a hot performance.

Plus, of course, Webster Hall properly remixed and mastered would be another worthy release candidate.

Talk Is Cheap has sold about the same as Mick's worst selling studio album which was Primitive Cool and that was thanks to the US sales, the album sold about 60-70% of its total worldwide sales in the US.

She's The Boss - 2.5 million worldwide
Wandering Spirit - 2.2 m
Goddess In The Doorway - 1.2 m
Talk Is Cheap - 1 m
Primitive Cool - 800k - 1 m
Main Offender - 500k
Crosseyed Heart - 300-350k

How about Ronnie's albums... I'd think his first solo album sold fairly well?

Decent sales figures from Mick and not too bad for Keith either.
But where is the market for Mick's stuff now?

Port Fairy …. US troops have liberated the town and
freed the people from only being allowed to listen to folk music ….

Hope they're moving on to liberate further towns along the coast or do you think Mick will satisfied with Port Fairy's sales?

Webster Hall 1993 is quite good, but I can imagine they'd be playing a lot better later on, if they did a tour, or a mini-tour that year, instead of that single show.
Difficult to get it that flowing if one only does one show per year. Hammersmith Odeon 1992 was a good idea, retired dog. Forgot about that.

If the troops can get electricity
into the town and teach the people how
to operate a turntable then sales should sky-rocket ……

A Flintstones type turntable could be very handy up until they get the electricity going.

Those sales figures are interesting.

But actually if you think about it - She's the Boss had some good, popular songs - ie I remember Just Another Night was quite popular when it came out and it got lots of airplay. Lonely at the Top was a good song too (Jagger-Richards).

Primitive Cool didn't have any hit singles on it...Ets Work was ok and moderately successful I suppose.

Wandering Spirit is a great album - imagine of this was a Stones album...

Goddess in the Doorway wasn't great but it did have few good songs- Too Far Gone would have been a great Stones song....

Doorway is like Crosseyed Heart and ABB for me - there's some good stuff on them, but not enough to keep my attention span to listen to these albums all the way through.

How about Ronnie's albums... I'd think his first solo album sold fairly well?

His first album didn't chart at all, he only had 3 charting solo albums in the US:
Now Look (US #118)
Gimme Some Neck (US #45)
1234 (US #164)

He also charted with his latest solo album in the UK at #164, but outside of the main Top 100 official chart.

Slide On This didn't chart in the US but it sold 58,000 copies.

Thanks georgelicks - would have thought with all the "star power" on his first album it might have made a bigger dent.
Still my favorite album of his, and in fact like it more than all of Mick's solo albums combined.
Goes to show popularity and sales means nothing when it comes to personal preference/quality.

As for Mick's bigger sales numbers, not too surprising as he is the front man of the Stones,
but as Keith said about Mick's 40 demos he had stockpiled a few years ago "quantity doesn't mean sh*t".
