Hi friends. I have the original Australia release 1980 vinyl box set (came with a t-shirt I left in the box) and am curious about the sound quality compared to the recent 1971-2016 edition.

I understand the later albums are not in my collection but I'm getting a little suspicious of 'remastered' Rolling Stones that have lost all the warmth and created a harsh overloud sound to my old ears
Can anyone comment- it's very expensive here, and I am unable to locate a subjective opinion online anywhere

The masters were definitely "younger" in 1980.

The 1971-2016 is better. The sound is very smooth with deep bass and space between the musicians. Voodoo Lounge, Some Girls or Emotional Rescue sounds very good.The 1980 box is bad for me, the sound is harsh, not relaxing, MP3, bass are thin. "Some Girls" sound horrible, Bill Wyman is bury in the mix.

You're the only person who notes the lack of Bass, I always did too on the early vinyl.
It's pleasing to hear it's in....
