With the Dobie Grey version being ingrained in my head as a 10 yr. old in '73, and not hearing the Stones version until much later, have to say there's no comparison. Dobie's is great in every way, while the Stones version is lazy and all around crappy. Had I never heard Dobie's version I might think otherwise, but as it stands can't even listen to the Stones version.
Not their best moment of that era. I think a different take, done slightly more upbeat, might have had potential. Something closer to "Shine A Light" in feel, could have, would have, should have, worked well.
Very nice song and a great version and, just like Cops and Robbers many years earlier, a missed chance to put a good song on an official album. Never mind.
I like Keith’s guitar on this track – not something he’d typically play. But this is not a song the Stones should be covering. And apparently nobody but Keith wanted to cover it…
