Keith inducting ZZ Top into the RRHOF

[youtu.be]

Ugh, I remember watching this live and just cringing. He is so damn unprepared and coked to the gills, it was disrespectful to ZZ Top honestly. I know everyone loves crazy ol' Keith, but this was just bad.

He's shy and a bunch of nerves.… but
that inner swaying rhythm pours from his bones …..

Many try to emulate but ya cant beat the real thang …..

I'm sure ZZ Top didn't care, but it didn't sit right...felt like the audience was laughing at him, not with him.

I'm sure ZZ Top didn't care,

its fine I reckon … And of course they didn't care
I'd say for then ZZ boys it woulda been a complete honour ….

Now that Tyler thing is what I'd call a complete embarrassment ……

"no notes... ten bucks!" that was sort of funny

Is Keith a fan of ZZ top?
I could understand him inducting one of his musical heroes but this band?
It's so showbiz. Perhaps his Manager felt a bit of publicity, good or bad wouldn't do any harm.

He has said earlier that he likes ZZ Top and AC/DC.

I don't know...IMO it is perfect.
These labored speeches, read off script, of flowery 5 syllable adjectives have turned rocknroll into HOF fodder. Keith syas it like it is, and I bet the boys from LaGrange appreciate.

Keith is Keith, I loved it.

Keith is a modern day bluesman above all else.

Billy Gibbons, the same.

No doubt Keith digs ZZ whose music is blues infused, plus they rock!

Of course he is...who isn't?

Both a fan and a friend - Billy Gibbons gifted him with a flashy pink/purple guitar during the Licks tour which Keith played several times during Satisfaction.
Can't find a pic of it, but it was quite a wild looking guitar.

Just watched it for the first time. New for me.

Great improvised speach actually. Nothing wrong with it whatsover!
Great he acknowledged Prince and others who performed there too.

A bit embarrassing. The speech was supposed to be about ZZ TOP, not about Keith himself. There’s not many lines of the band.

I was on the edge "is this cool or not" but when he got to "badabim badabum" it was decided. Delusions of Cool

Remember ZZ Top opened for the Stones in Hawaii in 1973 so they might indeed have a long deep relationship (probably based on their love and knowledge of the blues).

Personally I think the ZZ Top are rather shady characters : they sold their @ss for mainstream success at the time of the "Eliminator" album (plus they manaed to rip co-writer Linden Hudson off his credits), they use playback during concerts.

Playback for instruments?

I know another band that also does that, for at least one song winking smiley

Billy Gibbons is a great guitar player in his chosen field. I'm not surprised that Keith likes him.

this is VINTAGE Keef - not sure what all the fuss is about - such a big heart, spiritual, and soulful connection to rhythm & blues

Yes i agree, he was a bit shy, a bit nervous, this is Keith when he has rehearsed something and wants to get it right, just doesn't work for him.
At the time the media had a field day with this presentation, maybe Keith was a bit wired and that makes it uncomfortable to watch for some.
I just remembe the UK media fearing for Keith's wellbeing etc etc.
Well Keith showed them.

Interesting stuff. Never heard of Linden Hudson before.

I love Eliminator, and Afterburner to a lesser extent, but they're pretty fraudulent albums. The only real instruments on the albums are Billy's voice and guitars. Everything else is synthesized.

This guy has wit, and a great sense of humor! Not your average speech, a little too coked up maybe, but a true Keith performance

Sue in Spain

My coat is torn and frayed, it's seen much better days, but as long as the guitar plays ....

Degüello is a masterpiece.

I was in High school when that was released, and yes a classic as is Tejas just prior to that and pretty much all the previous albums
The '80's MTV era's not really my cup of tea, but fun to seem them play all those tunes live.

Not sure what 'playback' they use live...maybe some synthy drum sampling? Similar to the Stones Sympathy?
Definitely not Billy's guitar or Dusty's bass...they're pretty raw and ragtag...that's part of what makes them a great band live
