this is pointless guesswork
I tend to agree...although it certainly seems they want to keep the touring machine running on a limited annual basis in an effort make it to their 60th anniversary. It's SO close, yet so far away.

I'm sure Charlie is good-naturedly grumpy about the prospect of touring every year until 2022 to keep the rust off, but the other three are probably enthusiastic, health willing.

The only two things that will stop them are health issues or Charlie forcing a retirement.

I can't see Charlie going 3 more years.

I think Charlie has a bad back and all the drumming takes its toll.

I think Charlie has become a bit more "fragile" for lack of a better word compared to the others, and the weight he has to carry during a show is always set.
Unlike Keith who can rely on Ronnie for backup (and vice versa), and Mick who can rely on the backup singers for backup, Charlie is all alone with his drum set.
Watching a bit of the 2002 rehearsals last night, the difference in his physical demeanor between then and now is quite eveident - more so than the others.
He can still kick ass on the drums, but there will be a time when he can no longer carry the heavy load of a 15 show tour with a 19 song setlist with the same grace and skill that he's doing right now.
Would they ever hire a second drummer to accompany Charlie on stage to enhance the overall sound? Very doubtful.

The question is, How do you want it to end?
-- They anounce a final tour, a final show, a final residency, and it's over.
-- It ends when one of them becomes sick or worse, with cancelled shows/tour and maybe come uncertainty about a rescheduling.
-- No announcement, but one of them (probably Charlie) decides he's done, the others wait for him to change his mind, and two or three years later we realize it's over.
I guess there are other scenarios.
Personally, I guess I would like them to go out on their own terms, but that's just subjective. I don't think they will stop until they are compelled to stop.
I also don't think people at that age make plans beyond the next few months, so all this talk about 2022, etc, is just fantasy.

They'll never make a final show or final tour, some tour (this one, the next one in Asia/Australia, the next one...) will be the last, tha band will stop and that's it, no more shows.

Their last proper tour was A Bigger Bang, 150 shows over 2 years.
Since 2012 is a long farewell, a never ending tour and any show could be the last one, we were very close in March this year, so the end could be tomorrow or in 10 years, no one knows.

Charlie Watts looks old, he's nearly 80. But he doesn't look ill, he's fitter than the 27 year old Brian Jones. He's the oldest stadium rock star ever. If one of them is seriously ill, the planned tour wouldn't happen anyway.

During past ten years Charlie has more shows then any others. He travelled throuoght Europe with ABC&D of Boogie Woogie. Last shows was 2014. Many jazzmans still performs when turns 80th.

On NJ 1 I talked to some guy with connections to the Stones management, he said, and there was a big chance the Stones will do another US Leg Tour in 2020 instead of South America.

It has someting to do with the stage and transport. The guy said also that they can continue for five more years in this shape with a maximum of three months touring a year.

It certainly seems like this tour has more or less been filling stadiums. I'd never complain about shows on home turf but I love the places the Stones have taken me. Selfishly, I'd love to catch a few shows in Tokyo next year.

If they did I wonder what cities they would go to?

Even though they only did 15 shows they pretty much covered the US.

I really don't see any holes.

San Diego for one, Las Vegas for two, and I could go on and list hundreds of others....

I understand what you are saying....but they will have played very close already to both those cities and Glendale was a very slow sell. And Vegas after Desert was also slow.

And people from both those cities that want to see them are probably already going to shows that are close to them?

I just don't see it. The cities they play draw people from all over to fill those stadiums.

Maybe smaller venue's?

Why not rarely played states/locations? That could qualify to Mick as "new locations" plus they are smaller venues

Portland, ME
Portland, OR
Red Rocks
Brooklyn Steel NYC
Ryman Aud. Nashville
Stubbs, Austin
Fargo ND
Boise, ID
Santa FE
Little Rock

How would they be unable to move the stage around the world ?

My back yard is open in 2020 if they want to do a warm up gig. I'm halfway between Chicago and St.Louis.

I guess if they do North America again then Vancouver would be a possibility.

But all I’ve heard from people talking is that Australia is next.

I have no clue or inside knowledge.

They are playing Seattle on this tour.
They have not played in Asia or Australasia since 2014

apparently from all accounts the band are enjoying themselves immensely..

I certainly hope Charlie maintains his health and interest. If he decides he's done, thats it..

but he wont quit unless he's not able to play ! and neither will the rest of them..grinning smiley
