I actually prefer Mike Zito's Chuck Berry tribute Rock 'N' Roll A Tribute To Chuck Berry which was released as almost the same time as Ronnie's. The individual tracks have special guest appearances on them and it is more energetic in my opinion.

1. St. Louis Blues - Charlie Berry III
2. Rock N Roll Music - Joanna Connor
3. Johnny B - Goode - Walter Trout
4. Wee Wee Hours - Joe Bonamassa
5. Memphis - Anders Osborne
6. I Want to Be Your Driver- Ryan Perry
7. You Never Can Tell - Robben Ford
8. Back in the USA - Eric Gales
9. No Particular Place to Go - Jeremiah Johnson
10. Too Much Monkey Business - Luther Dickinson
11. Havana Moon - Sonny Landreth
12. Promised Land - Tinsley Ellis
13. Downbound Train - Alex Skolnick
14. Maybelline - Richard Fortus
15. School Days - Ally Venable
16. Brown Eyed Handsome Man - Josh Smith/Kirk Fletcher
17. Reeling and Rocking - Tommy Castro
18. Let It Rock - Jimmy Vivino
19. Thirty Days - Albert Castiglia
20. My Ding a Ling - Kid Andersen

Not sure what some folks were expecting here ?

Ronnie doing Chuck Berry songs was always gong to be just "a bit of fun".

Just enjoy it for what it is.

I found this album excruciating, the playing is bland and predictable, the singing is flat out awful from Wood, May and the backing singers, overall a gruelling slog to get to the end of it. I just cannot imagine anyone playing this more than once. Easily the worst album I've heard in a long time.

That Steppenwolf track reminds me of 'Johnny B Goode's Good' by The Pirates.

I don't understand what you mean ... I don't think that in Ronnie's intentions there was the will to do something better, but simply pay tribute to Chuck Berry and do some evenings in his memory to party and have a lot of fun. Because this is rock 'n roll not a race ...I believe that in our society many people confuse music with competitions, music is not competition!

A one page interview was published today in Le Journal du Dimanche (french sunday newspaper). I did not see it here or elsewhere but we can see Ronnie confirmed his two next tributes will be to Jimmy Reed and Eddie Taylor.

"we get inspired by the best ... you get turned on by great music by great players, and you hope to try and pass that on to the kids now."

-- Ronnie Wood, 2018 Clash Magazine interview

in case anyone needs a reminder of why Stones or Ronnie do these cover records!

By passing it on to the kids listening to the Stones, I presume Ronnie means the 60 and 50 year old Stones fans out there.

But seriously ...what's not to like about a bit of old school Rock N Roll, played essentially for fun by musicians who love it.

It's not supposed to be anything else .Just take it for what it is

The German HiFi-Magazine 'Stereo' 9-2021 has already a small review about 'Mr Luck – A Tribute To Jimmy Reed'.

They find it kinda relaxed but enthusiastic, puristic & timeless and gave 3.5 stars (out of 5) for the music as well as 3.5 stars (out of 5) for the sound quality -- [www.Stereo.de] .

And the German HiFi-Magazine 'Audio' 10-2021 (p.121) wrote:

"Part two of the live trilogy: After Chuck Berry, the Stones guitarist bows to Jimmy Reed this time. 'Woody' presents 18 tracks, again with celebrity support. Guitar buddy Mick Taylor accompanies him in his band, and R'n'B legend Bobby Womack, Simply Red boss Mick Hucknall and 'Modfather' Paul Weller shine as guests. Especially for guitar fans, classics like 'Mr. Luck', 'Big Boss Man' and 'You Don't Have To Go' offer a multitude of unadorned blues solos, sometimes with slide guitar, sometimes with blues harp, loud licks & tricks full of exuberant joy, high musicality and casual sovereignty, as only old masters who no longer have anything to prove can do. A memorable show at the Royal Albert Hall." Audio gave 4 stars (out of 5) for the music as well as 3.5 stars (out of 5) for the sound quality.

Found an excellent deal on the deluxe Mad Lad. Just came yesterday. Can't wait to give this a spin on the long trek to Nashville! Along, with Bernard's spoken album, and the deluxe Talk Is Cheap.

Was not aware of deluxe Mad Lab. Does it contain extra tracks?

No extra tracks - but 12x12 artcard of the album artwork (Deluxe) or 12x12 art print, signed & numbered set list and T-Shirt (Super Deluxe) - [www.RonnieWood.com] .

defintely not worthwhile buying. The so-called 'artcard' ist just a print on cheap and thin paper. Beside that you don't can anything but the CD, the LP and the box.
