Always on tap. Goes for any of them. I.e. beers. That's why I go to St Louis to taste Budweiser. From the factory tap. Or Dublin for Guinnes. Even if their brewery tour is a joke. Or Leuven even if Interbrew don't have a Stella tour...
Tap, goes without saying. Love Guinness. Unfortunately there are only few places here in Belgium where it is as good as in Dublin. But no complaints here on the beer.
Talking about Beer and Belgium... I am supposed to be in Brussels for the tour start next year (European leg that is). Out there in Leuven they don't allow people into their enormous production plants of Stella Artois. Are there any other recommended brewery tours or brands in Brussels downtown city center area? Well I have been at Grand Place so I am ready for something more "cultural" you know...
PS. Most people probably don't know. But I don't think there is any other place on earth where there are as many beer brands as in Belgium. Measured by size of the country etc. Hundreds and hundreds for sure.
They do a good job with the can technology, but there's no substitute for a good tap. But, not all taps are the same - I've had perfectly awful Guinness on tap in Dublin and other places in Ireland (been to over 100 pubs the past 18 months there) - most folks will tell you it has to do with keeping the pipes clean.

And, of course, you've got a few local beers worth standing in line for. I had dinner at a Belgian Restaurant last night (in Vancouver) and had to stay for the beers. As a Canadian beer drinker I can only say I'm equally impressed and jealous.
On tap without a doubt.....even with the advent of the "widget"! Especially when poured just perfectly at the local Irish Pub.............."Abbeys Tavern" here in San Francisco was always top notch........Hopefully Abbeys is still there..............been awhile since I've been there. Used to be a regular stop before and after any "Winterland" shows.
On tap. Regarding Belgium I used to live there for 4 years. Great Beers!!! Try a Duval, Jupiler is a domestic lager with Stella Artois & Maes pils.
Spots are King of Spain & Beer Kelder in basement but thats Heavy Metal if you can tolerate. Up the road 5 blocks is bar The Raven. A few blocks north is La Poubelle. Can't go wrong with 100 of their beers!!!! Have Fun
No Expectations - Abbey's Tavern is where I first enjoyed Guinness! Yes - it's still there on Geary. Was there after the Black Crowes show a couple of months back.

is it just here in the UK that we call Stella 'wife beater' or is it a global nickname ?
that stuff sends you loopy!
i've no idea what they put in it. but its the only lager i know of that makes normal people turn into nutcases. it must be some kind of chemical reaction
its happened to me personally once too (not wife beating i might add ...)

very odd
i had a beer called mamba. it made u go nuts when u drank it!i think it was african and had voodoo shit in it!
Like everyone else it seems, i prefer guiness from the tap, but then Id have to say the can is next, followed by the bottle. For whatever reason Guiness is the only beer I prefer from the can before the bottle, it just tastes better. Anyone else agree?
I like to go to brewery tours because fresh beer is the best and then you get to taste beer that is brewed 2-3 days ago max. You never get that in a pub. Well rarely. And the bottle beer is a lot older than draft/tap beer so that's why tap is better. Beer is fresh and it is loosing quality over time. Like 3 months later a beer is old. Even with industrial beer like Budweiser you can taste the difference between 2 days and 2 weeks and 2 months old beer.
I tend to go for the local beers. I drink Guiness in Ireland but wouldn't dream of touching it anywhere else. In England I tend to go for local real ales but I have recently found a great shop that imports beers from all around the world (called "Bitter Virtue" - a great name for a shop though not as good as the home brew shop in Bristol called "Brewer's Droop").
Oh, my order of preference is draught, then bottle, and then can. (Pretty much for all beers).
ps in England you can get polypins of real ale which are not only smaller than a firkin but last longer because they don't draw air in. This is just perfect if you want some nice ale which will last a couple of weeks or so... (I'd still get a firkin for a party though!)
