In that case I don't know why it sounded wrong, but it did.

Probably because the two guitars have different sounds.

They're both in standard tuning but use a capo on different frets

Strange that Keith didn´t notice...The guitar looks different, sounds different, the capo is not where it should be...and so on. I thought he was sober and straight this tour...not hooked on LSD..

Keith is in Guitar Limbo. Not the first time or the last. Love that bastard.

Yeah!! That show rocked, it was our absolute favorite although we haven’t been to as many as most of you.. without writing a full review just yet I can say that the energy between the crowd and the band seem to continue and feed each other.. from where we were: very clean guitar, vocals amazing, the smiles and laughs on Micks face as we were near the end of the catwalk, and him yelling “f*ck yeah” to our side at one point we knew he was feeling it smiling smiley .. keith’s energy was def diff from Friday show, he was all over the stage smiling laughing and playing fantastic.. and I agree with whoever said they could just listen to midnight Rambler live every night I’m with you! that was my absolute favorite midnight rambler .. rock n’ roll!

Anyone realize that the "Twins" ended up basically dressed the same and also the same hair color? Don't know how to upload pic, but a few videos like this. I would say that's a first. [www.youtube.com]

shows #97 & #98 for me. due to the schedule changes it's probably the last time i see the stones. mick was fantastic but i was really disappointed in keith and his lack of preparation. with mick having such a major procedure i was expecting keith to pick up were he left off in warsaw. it seems he hasn't touched a guitar since last summer. 'monkey man' was a major mistake as the song vote. the head bump was a major event for him, too, and he needs to stop "winging it" like he's twenty-five. friday night it looked like he had food poisoning and tuesday his playing wasn't much better. it got to the point of almost writing off this tour as one time too many until 'paint it black' smoked. smoking rambler, too. if i was going to more shows i'd just put these shows in the 'milwaukee' column and just wait until another K.C. but some people only see One show and keith needs to put in the work like mick does and respect the fans. they did have darryl cranked extra loud to make up for keith and that was good. it didn't hide the mistakes but the bass complimented the notes. keith finally 'snapped' out of it during 'rambler'. luckily everyone else will get better shows.

Exactly. To be even more precise, PIB has the capo in the 2nd fret, MR in the 7th. A HUGE difference - 5 frets. Why it went unnoticed by Keith is a small miracle. Yes, it was fun, but no, it was not "pure gold", because it sounded like shit!

That false start with Rambler was amazing. Would have loved to be a mindreader in those first 30 sec where everyone tag along for the doomed ride! lol

And great response all way around! :-)

And 6 songchanges out of 20 is very cool. Especially compared to Aerosmith who does the same 17 songs every night in their Vegas thing.

why take a dig at another band when clearly you don't understand how vegas works and your post showed it. every act that plays vegas for multiple nights does the same show. that's the point. its timed out for the casino so that they know how long the people will stop gambling. every aspect of the show has been run through numerous times and given the ok by the casino. I use to deal with stuff like that. if the stones did a long vegas stint they too would be forced to make very little if any changes.

that being said longtime aerosmith fans are happy to see these songs in the setlist
seasons of wither
kings and queens
draw the line

it looks like aerosmith just hit about the 1/2 way point of their stint and did make some changes. lets see if these changes stay for the rest of the stint.
they dropped:
mama kin
back in the saddle
come together

replaced with:
draw the line
rag doll
chip away the stone

before they were playing walkin the dog during the encore instead of come together so yes despite the rigid way vegas casinos work they have made some changes

How about a little You Gotta Move intro before Hangman Jury from the Toxic Twins?!?!

It’s happened before. In DC, 2002, the band was set up for “Don’t Stop,” including Mick on guitar. Capo 2nd fret. But Keith launched into “Tumbling Dice.” Mick tossed back his guitar and went with it. The first and last performance of “Dice” in the key of A!

I'm watching something with my own eyes and ears that differs greatly to what you experienced. Admittedly i'm going by youtube footage but Keith comes across as more rehearsed than on other tours recently. His guitar is very loud, where does the bass make up for it ? I thought Keith sang and played really well on his solo set too, the only thing i would say is Keith hasn't come in match fit physically but i bet he's moving well by show 7, i mean the man is 76 this year, he's moving better than Clapton etc. We can't all be Mick Jagger i'm afraid, that is a dedication to fitness that has been a sacrifice that someone like Keith would not be prepared to do, i think we all know that and we all know that Keith has led a life of excess, enjoy what he does have to offer because very soon now we won't be able to see the Stones and the opportunity for you to criticize them will be gone forever.

If it sounded just like the album. Well I may as well listen to the album.

I know, what pisses me off is that Mick can make a mistake like go to sing a Blues number instead of Bitch and no one mentions that, Mick forgets lines here and there and makes mistakes but that's forgiven. The thing is it's far more complicated for the guitarist, lots of changes and over 4 hours of playing Keith (Like Mick said himself ) made one @#$%& up, one @#$%& up in two shows, but Keith always makes up for it, he always tries harder the next night if he doesn't play too well on a song the previous show or he tries harder for the rest of the song or show if he cocks something up, he will play an extended solo or something.
By the way, Ronnie played some strange solo's too , but that doesn't get criticized and rightfully so, Ronnie like Keith will not play a cold show, he is spontaneous and i love him for it, could be crap could be amazing, that's the Stones for me.
On the bright side Keith has got all the intros right this tour so far, so things are looking up the way i see it. Lots of hints that he has dementia, no way man, Keith has always been this way, he has been messing up since 81' that's just the nature of the man, but at least you never know what you are going to get, i like that.

Yeah sure, i agree, but when it's honest and fair criticism and not one sided towards one member in the band with arthritis, if we are going to be honest, they all make mistakes. But the overall vibe is that the Stones are on fire and this is only two shows into the tour, that's good isn't it ?

I can't believe they're playing this music with such passion and pace at their ages, it's something to be excited about ?

Playing for over 2 hours, including 20 songs, some of those tracks are over 12 minutes long, i really thought by now they would have taken the money and ran with it, but they're giving it everything, how many paying customers are going home unhappy ?

I have criticised them over greed recently but when it comes to delivering the goods live, they're delivering well this year, i don't even hear anyone complaining about the set list either, they really are giving it their all, it's all going into the music and i love em for it.

But reading for years and consistently that a concert was better than the previous one and invariably the current tour is better than the previous one makes me laugh.

Well Keith's playing is very comparable to last year from what I've heard, he always makes a few mistakes here and there, and of course he isn't leading the band the same way he did years ago.

But it's interesting how people often points out Keith as the weak link when you could just as well complain about Charlie barely hitting the drums with any power at all anymore or Mick's voice sometimes sounding a bit weak.

No way, man! It's sounded better in '75, when they played it in B. But in '76 Keith took off the capo and played it in G. Too low for Mick.
Compare LA or Totonto to Paris and see, it works so much better in B.
