What or what did Brian do to piss them off so much? Love to know but no one speaks specifics. Whatever it was it seems cumulative and kept happening and caused estrangement. Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Jones.

I wonder if it wasn't one thing but a lot of different things. Even we outsiders know that he kept extra gig money for himself without telling the others, fathered several children out of wedlock for whom he took no responsibility whatever, hit Anita, and later on only showed up for sessions sporadically, often in no condition to play. Whatever excuses one might be inclined to make for him, this behavior affected others negatively, and I think it's fair to assume that there was more along the same lines that we are not privy to, and that at some point some of the people around him came to dislike him.

Brian Jones Dulcimer Question

Does anyone have any interviews where Brian talks about the dulcimer other than the Beat Instrumental article from 1966?

Jones & Aldred

An excerpt of a song Brian wrote with Ready Steady Go! presenter Michael Aldred.

Audio description: We seemingly hear Brian talking and swearing at the start, followed by Brian playing 12 string acoustic guitar with Michael singing. Michael is then heard talking at the end.

Isn't this the same as one of those parts from A Degree of Murder?

The Rolling Stones - Hi-Heel Sneakers - Live at Kurhaus of Scheveningen, The Hague, Netherlands - 8th August 1964.

Note, due to where the person with the mic was standing at this point of the concert, this is essentially a live 'isolation' of Brian's guitar playing, with Keith's lead playing being mostly way down in volume on the recording.

Beautiful fat sound and great playing, right there in the pocket with Bill & Charlie!! It reminds us how much of the future "rock" version of the Stones was already there in the early Brian Jones days (which, to avoid misunderstandings, remains my favorite era of the band).

The Jones and Alred was recorded when? If it was after the Stones, it sounds dated.

Most importantly he was important as the others in creating The Rolling Stones “sound”.

On Street Fighting Man is Brian playing only the tanpura, which makes the twangy drone or is he also playing a strumming instrument like an autoharp .And why didn’t he play the shehnai at the outro instead of Dave Mason since he was the reed instrument player in the band

No autoharp.

Dave had the idea and the instrument.
Is he also playing sitar or guitar?

Thanks Majesty for that great upload of SFM right/left. What an insane track! The drone! It's one of those performances where I don't even know where to look - everyone firing on all cylinders.
PS This actually rivals 'Tomorrow Never Knows'.

It seems to me Brian was very involved in the making of Satanic Majesties.

Cac & Ccc dulcimer tuning comparison.

A short comparison between the CAC (C Mixolydian) and CCC (aka the bagpipe tuning) dulcimer tunings and how it affects the feel and clarity of a melody.

On all known Brian - dulcimer recordings, he used the 'bagpipe' tuning, ie tuning all of the strings to 1 note, with the wound/bass string tuned an octave below the other strings.

Personally I like the first version (tuning) better; it has a more eastern feel. Both very well played . thumbs up
