The Stones Continue Ripping off their fans

Well here we go again, now they are trying to sell us a dvd with six songs, which include 2 versions of that "classic" (which by the way they refuse to play live at their concerts) SOL, Its sick.
And then they have the balls to release a cd with so called"Rarities" except that at least 14 of the 16 songs even the most casual fan most have hear them at some point.
Give me a break, but l guess they need the money, since A Bigger Bang didn't do as well as expected.
l know a lot the "fans" here will not like this but its true the stones have become greedy old men, there is no excuse for them to put out this shit.

If anyone wants to hear real rarities and never heard of stuff, download "Place Pigalle", Black Box vol1-4, Woodstock tapes cd, Voodoo Brew vol1-4,Handsome Girls, Rock And Roll Acetates, and many more. Go for it.

its ok to download boots and outtakes, but its rather "unfair" to down the official ones.the stones are not the only band who makes money . imo why not.you will do the same in their position.
ps sorry im drunken

Hey Telek its too early to be drunk. anyway if the Stones had any respect and wanted to do a real rarities cd they have so much stuff that they could have done something great, alternate versions, early versions of well known songs that sound different from the ones released, etc, but who wants to hear another version of miss you?
and since they don't care about their fans and its only about making more money, then l don't see anything wrong with getting their stuff free.

This makes little-to-no-sense:

a) nobody wants to hear another version of Miss You
b) it's only about making money

Hmmm . . . If nobody wants to hear another version of Miss You, then how will they make any money?

Either
a) Lotsa folks want to hear another version of Miss You, or
b) It's not about making money.

You decide.

I'll bet it's that losta folks want to hear another version of their most popular song from their most popular album, but what do I know.

Satisfaction, Yes, that's probably right. But if you'll check you'll see that I never said: "most popular song," scholar.

I said most popular song from their most popular album: Some Girls is their most popular album. The most popular song on their most popular album is . . . wait for it: Miss You.

If I had said (for example) Rough Justice their most popular song from their most recent album would you say "as far as Rough Justice being their most popular song I don't think so . . ."?

C'mon Ropeni get to work on those reading skills.

And regarding what I do or don't download, I don't download what I can buy. And I certainly don't justify theft because others do it or because I don't like what somebody is selling.

If you pay 100-250 dollars to see a show then you have a right to download whatever the hell you want- If the stones truelly gave a shit about the tue wanting of hardcore fans, then they would beat the bootleggers at their own game and release the stuff themselves. Instead they make decisions based on demographics and the songs that will most likely sell....

Talkin bout the....

how does releasing stuff "beat the bootleggers" when so many people are downloading pirated versions of official releases?? and then "justifying" it in their own minds by huffing that the Stones are ripping the fans off.

Q: Do you feel you've disappointed your fans?
A: Not as much as the fans have disappointed us.

Quit bashing the Stones for $%^$%'s sake. They're not a bloody charity. They make something available to you. You want it, go buy it. You don't want it, don't buy it. Simple. Anyone can understand that. What the hell more do people want from them ? A free DVD personalised to your own taste sent delivered by FEDEX straight to your front door ??

Great answer!

You are right!

@paulywaul
I completely agree with you.

To the others:
Quit being so negative. I'm rather happy with the releases and I look forward to having a good audio version of "Through the lonely nights". If you don't want it, don't buy it. I spent a fortune on stones CDs cause I like the music. If you don't want to do this, don't do it.

The 12" remix of Miss You is great and I'll be glad to have it on CD rather than scratched pink vinyl!

I'll also be glad for an official CD release of Let it Rock and Through the Lonely Nights.

Not everyone has millions of bootlegs and the Rolling Stones don't make any decisions based on the assumption that everyone in the world owns every Stones bootleg ever made! - After all, that's illegal - theftn really.

I can see why people are pissed off about having to get another ABB CD to get the DVD, but I can't see what is wrong with this rarities release. By definition, a rarity is something which isn't commonly available. Apart from one or two songs on the CD, this applies to a majority of its content. B sides and re-mixes are rarities - after all, where can I go out and by a copy of Mixed Emotions remix on CD other than resorting to specialist record fairs and bootlegs?

Yes, it's a great version. It is, however, a common misconception that the 12" version is a "Remix". It's not, it is a LONGER VERSION. Later tracks like Mixed Emotions 12" are usually remixes which were done by other people, DJ's, with little or no Stones involvement at all. But Miss You is actually a longer version = more Stones music!

It is a rarities CD not unreleased material so what do you expect. Most of it is available on CD singles or the rarities CD from 1993/4 but what did you expect?

Re: The Stones Continue Ripping off their fans

The release is a joke, another marketing blunder, just like the Licks LIve CD with the one CD containing again the warhorses.
I guess they target the hard core fans. But if ABB, a very decent album, even hardly sells, I am sure that this CD will not sell more than 100,000 copies in total.
So why not really dig into the vaults and/or release a gig to download from the current tour once in a week. Unfortunatelay they will never be as fan friendly as Pearl Jam, Prince or Metalillica.
Reallly wonder who within the Stones camp is coming up with the weird idea.

This band has given us a helluva more over the years. More greatest hits packages. More live CDs. More re-releases on different labels. I bet their percentages of collections/live CDs are among the highest, so we should quit bitching?

People pay 30 dollars for a T-shirt at the shows no problem. And they pay 8.50 dollars for light beer at shows. They spend 100's on tickets. Then the Stones record company release a rarities CD and people say they don't want it. OK. So leave it up to us to buy it. If you don't want it then don't buy it.

I am not interested if you don't buy bread because bread is too expensive. Except if you are starving then may be you should talk to your govenment. Same with CD's. They re-package stuff all the time. Don't expect to get anything for free. The Rolling Stones are the world's most popular rock group. The biggest brand name in rock. They are not a charity organization.

Please, all you out there in Stones land, always keep in mind that life is way too short for complaining over the prices of tix, wieners, tee shirts etc.
The Rolling Stones are as we all know immaculate in every singe detail and impeccable in every sense of the word.
If you happen to disagree with all-of-the-above that's just to bad.

Key words: praise, affordable, zealous, self-righteous, biased, unreasonable, know-all and laughable.

I agree with what everyone is saying about nobody is forcing you to buy anything. But don't be fooled and think the Stones really care about their hardcore fans because it is very obvious that they don't.

You want to see a band that cares for their fans, check out the Grateful Dead. The Stones are almost the complete opposite.

The Dead do care about their fans, for sure (I'm a dead-head, too)....but they are too a corporation - and the release of their archival material is primarily motivated by monetary needs to keep the corporation afloat....Phil says as much in his new bio.
