Got a sweet black angel
Got a pin up girl
Got a sweet black angel
Up upon my wall
Well, she ain't no singer
And she ain't no star
But she sure talk good
And she move so fast
But the gal in danger
Yeah, de gal in chains
But she keep on pushin'
Would ya take her place?
She countin' up de minutes
Countin' up de days
She's a sweet black angel, whoa
Not a sweet black slave
Ten little niggers
Sittin' on de wall
Her brothers been a fallin'
Fallin' one by one
For a judge they murdered
And a judge they stole
Now de judge he gonna judge her
For all dat he's a worth
Well de gal in danger
De gal in chains
And she keep on pushin'
Would you do the same?
She countin' up de minutes
She countin' up de days
She's a sweet black angel
Not a gun toting teacher
Not a Red lovin' school mom
Ain't someone gonna free her
Free de sweet black slave
Free de sweet black slave
Free de sweet black slave
Free de sweet black slave

I don`t like films like "John Wick Chapter 3" or films by Quentin Tarrantino.

The average rap song is presumably way more offensive with talk of shooting and killing people not to mention the extreme misogyny. Not to mention the real shootings and killings that happen at rap concerts all the time.

In 20 years from now we are going to look back on this time and think that we were all nearly crazy. I can't wait for this phase to end.

The infamous line in Some Girls is just a very untrue, very lazy, racial stereotype. It’s offensiveness shouldn’t have to be pointed-out. It’s there. Read the lyrics.

As a white guy I feel it's not up to me to decide how women and/or people of color should or should not feel about the song.

I’ve never understood such viewpoints. So, because you are not black, you feel it is not your place to judge? Ridiculous.

I once saw an African-American couple walk out of a Stones concert because of cartoon "Mammy" imagery spliced into the "Honky Tonk Women" background video montage. I didn't blame them for leaving. My first thought was "I hope they don't know what 'Brown Sugar' is about."

"Brown Sugar" is racist and sexist. That fact can't be avoided. It's about a slavemaster getting turned on by whipping his slaves, as if slavery were a sex party. It came from a time when outrageous rock was a thing and bands were trying to outdo each other by intentionally skating on the edge. Lots of artists trafficked in edgy material, and I don't blame them or the Stones either. Art sometimes goes to difficult places.

"Brown Sugar" is a great song that rocks hard, but maybe it shouldn't be played. To be perfectly honest, one less warhorse in the set means maybe one more rarity or new song getting in, so I personally would raise no objection to dropping it from the standard setlist.

As a white guy I feel it's not up to me to decide how women and/or people of color should or should not feel about the song.

Hopefully you belong to a minority. They should do the opposite and play it 50 f-ing times just because of your post. The list of things you are not allowed to say grows everytime you bend your back to the fascists.

thumbs up

I had to look up Ian Brennan and the meaning of SJW.

It’s interesting how many here are offended by someone being offended. smoking smiley

Im not offended but terrified of the offended and their power. (See Twitter, facebook, google, youtube, Bill c16 in Canada etc ).

Well, I think it’s just one of many examples why it’s nonsense to accuse Mick of racism

Music & Musicians are an easy target. Sympathy for the devil was mentioned by BV in a previous post as another example.

Why is a song about the devil any different to a story or a film or a painting on or of the devil. There’s a lot of horror movies so why should a song have any more resonance or influence.

Why is Brown Sugars “character” in the song, the narrator, any different to the slave owning character in “Django”.

Artistic LICENSE!!! He has he freedom to write his garbage, I have the freedom to ignore it and sing along with Brown Sugar written by some musicians a few times this summer.

Just because they wrote 2,000 light years from home doesn’t mean they ever were,
Just because they wrote brown sugar doesn’t mean they agree with slavery and rape. Stones were certainly never a racist band in any sense...

I don’t think the guy who wrote this should be seen as left or right or PC or #whatever the hell. .... he’s just a tit and there’s been tits for thousands of years. Just another gimp.

(Apologies to any gimps offended by this post)

lmao grinning smiley this whole thing... from the funny article to so many funny posts. All the feigned BS is hilarious.

I wonder how long ago they wrote/held this... waiting for their moment?
Must have been disappointed by the tour delay and delaying publishing their comedy crap.

I always laugh off these predictable sensationalist cockroach articles riding the coat tails of The Stones as they head out on tour.
