Love the black Tele custom....it will be my next guitar! I see several people mention the Dan Armstrong Plexiglas guitar.......strap one on and walk around for five minutes ......then grab a muscle relaxer!!! HEAVY! You need a healthy back for that! Teles and Les Pauls are heavy enough.

The guitar used in Anaheim for Miss You could most probably be the black Telecaster a fan gave Keith in Copenhagen in 2007. Both times he used it for Miss You and the body of the guitar has a painting or sticker which can also be seen in the pic from Anaheim.

It's not. The guitar Keith got in Copenhagen and played is the one johnh have posted. I was there that night when he played it so i remember it very well.

Has Keith played this guitar earlier on this tour?

Here's another pic from Anaheim that Justin took, I believe.

I've seen several people mention open G. I believe the 72' custom was always 6 string standard. Micawber, Malcolm, Dice and some custom Newman-Jones are all 5 string open G guitars....... 72 was used extensively in 81'/82', but was definitely standard then. He also used a Rosewood tele from like @78'- Am I wrong?

It had 5 strings tuned to open G during ABB (used mostly for JJF) and also one tour with the winos if i remember correctly.

It looks very much like somebody at Fender tried really hard to make a standard Custom looks like a 'Keith' guitar -white switch tip, upper bout etc....

You mentioned you are a guitar geek right? Cool, I am too, not like you or a buddy of mine, but knowledgeable......thanks for the insight........Wouldn't you love to play one of the old stolen Newman-Jones 5 string customs??? I would! Curious.......5 strings, 3 fingers, 2 chords, 1 @#$%&, right?

I have played two TNJ guitars in my live, and both where just really bad guitars. Very crudely made, awkward hardware and electronics. It felt like a really cheap guitar.

Keith looks like a gypsy, as he has done for years. Now he looks like an aging gypsy. I don't see how we'd expect different.

I have a stones book with a blueprint and parts list of the Newman-Jones. The parts seemed to be high end.......I'll take your word, disappointing. Any chance the ones you played were "production" models? You would think one would want to get it right for such a high profile customer.........that just stinks.

It's "five strings, three notes, two fingers and one arsehole to play it" -
and the guitar threads are a valuable resource because they stay on topic.
Please go to the iorr home page, click the "great forum threads" link and once you're in there,
open the Ratbag Boogie Guitar Thread Index. From there you can find the thread about Keith's custom jobs,
which include the Newman-Jones guitars.

And yep, the black custom has been a five-string for a while now.

Probably not, since Mick is playing a Strat...

Yes, D&G is open-G for both Keith & Mick.

The Skull Tele was painted by Ronnie's former brother in law.

- Brass bridge, probably by Schecter just like on Micawber.*
- the middle pickup screw is missing - probably a lap steel pup *
- 5 Strings *
- white Strat pickup selector switch knob *

I'd guess the Custom shop is called Pierre DeBeauport and comes out of his and Keith's spare parts bin.

Yes, that's right.

JumpinJeppeFlash, Keith plays it on Waiting On A Friend (Anaheim II) and on Miss You (Anaheim I) it seems.

Five strings, but 6 saddles...weird. It seems he played it both in standard tuning and open G on the same show. That would be a first.

Maybe Keith used 2 different Custom Teles on the 1981/82 tour?

On this picture it seems to have a few scratches on the upper corner

This one got no scratches

The samme Tele as in the middle picture

What do you think? I don't think that Keith only got one 72´Custom Tele, but had a back-up.

keith has said the black custom is heavy, so i think that's why you don't see it on stage anymore. in 2005 in SF he had it re-strung and used it for the start me up opener. perfect guitar for the song, gave a nice low growl. wish he stuck with it.

The custom Keith was talking about when saying it is heavy is not The Black telecaster custom but Ted Newman Jones rosewood Telecaster.
