Mathjis: 1972 Customs with a 1972 serial number are virtual non-existant. So, the "1972" in the name is meant as a reference to the model, not the date it was build.

Mathjis, I just lookd at my own tele custom (a mocha, serial number about 370 000), and the number on the neck says 3 oct 1972...
I Guess some of the teles were built in late 72, and maybe later in the shops...

Very cool pictures indeed.

I think during the ABB tour Keef & Ronnie dusted a lot of old and cool guitars and I'm glad they did!

I remember the Barcelona concert, Ronnie played no less than 8-10 different guitars. I liked to see both guitarists playing Dan Armstrongs in SFTD for example.

And for whar I've seen from gigs I've been in or watched, they didn't have a specific guitar for a specific song, it seems that they were almost random choices every night. That's cool.

Anyway, beautiful guitars and beautiful sounds. I wouldn't mind to sneak into the backstage and "adopt" some guitars from that collection...

Have you found a Body Date? mostlikely to be found in the neck-pocket.

The guitar was introduced at the Austin guitar show in June '72 where guitar traders could order batches. These batches were build in Q4 of 1972, and assembled late '72, early '73. This was also the moment they recieved the serial number. Your guitar's neck was build in October '72, the body most probably also, pickups most probably from Q1 '71, pots from '68 to '70, and your serial number is from early 1973.

Any info on the blonde custom (or is it a deluxe?) he used on the ABB tour? I'm not sure if he used it that often, but I remember seeing it used during Shattered on the opening night of the tour in Boston '05

this one here, you mean? it's a custom - i don't think i've ever seen Keith with a deluxe
(there's a deluxe among the New Barbarians' guitars in some of the gear shots, but it's not clear whose it was)

Yep, that's the one. Definitely a custom, you're right. The ABB tour is the only time I've ever seen him play that one. Any idea on what year it might be from?

>> The ABB tour is the only time I've ever seen him play that one. Any idea on what year it might be from? <<

yeah, Keith unveiled it in a video clip of a rehearsal for the may 10th 2005 press conference
(and as you noted earlier he didn't use it too often - i think it was only seen at the very start of the tour.)
i have no idea what vintage it is, but i bet one of our resident learned patient and good-lookin Guitar Connoisseurs knows

sure it is, Reptile honey! have some popcorn :E

here's the thread about Keith's Strats: [www.iorr.org]
and here's the Ratbag Boogie Guitar Thread Index: [www.iorr.org]
one reason people dig these threads a lot is that they stay on topic -
as in the topic of this thread is Keith's Tele Customs. thanks :E

We did discuss this guitar before. But basically it is a late '70's (most likely '78/'79) Custom. I bet it's heavy as hell, so that's why he didn't use it much.

Since '93 the black Custom is only used for open G.
