The Rolling Stones - Time Is On My Side - Ed Sullivan Show


"October 25, 1964 would see The Rolling Stones' first appearance
on the iconic variety show, and their career in the United States would never be the same.
The Stones performed two songs that show, a cover of Chuck Berry’s
“Around and Around” and “Time Is On My Side.”
Everyone in the band was in dress attire, except for Mick Jagger
who was keeping it casual and comfy in a simple sweater.

Per the official Ed Sullivan Show website, after the Stones
finished their performance of “Around and Around” fans in the audience
wouldn’t stop screaming throughout the show’s next act,
so Sullivan had to scold them multiple time by yelling “Quiet!”

One thing that was not quiet in the coming weeks were box office cash registers.
The Stones’ appearance helped the band move a bunch of tickets for their fall tour
in the U.S. to the tune of a cool one million dollars in ticket sales."

just amazing; totally there

i don't know if they've ever done better than this.
(except adtl, def my 'go to' favorite these last few years
when i needed 'shelter' and some rock and roll with soul that just plain works.

(Others of their songs come close; a bunch of others, of course )

I don't know if anybody has done better than this in the world of rock and roll.
I've listen to the L&G Live Version a hundred times thru the years.
(starting with really crappy VHS bootlegs one after another in the early 80's;
it was unavailable commercially for so many years).
It was like Raiders of The Lost Ark biggest treasure or something,
to finally get better copies available of that tour
but upon listening to the studio track directly from sf again;
it was just amazing; just plain amazing how all these elements came
together so hot; all of them; the whole thing is amazing; the horns, all of it.
mick is just totally on this; brilliant.

This fan vid seems to have the best audio compared to the feeds I got
last night and more of the clips I'm getting a chance to go through now.
Spectacular opening song, opening night 2019

I've long liked the MSG '03 HBO Concert version from the latter decades of versions.
This one is charming, imo, and truly dramatic in the wake of the coronary
stuff.

Exciting and fun as he's doing a bit of the sprint down the runway
after starting that skipping move thing he does,
which itself covers a lot of ground fast;
and the crowd responds warmly which is beautiful. Good stuff.
Somehow that gentleman makes a football stadium look small and manageable.
Which i guess, for him; it is, lol, he's played for significantly bigger
crowds than this all down the line. I rather think they'll feel encouraged and inspired by this opener.
