Then He Kissed Me - The Crystals

Phil changed these young women in personnel quite a bit in The Crystals.
And then some married and quit and so on...this classic, one of several; but this one has Darlene Love and LaLa Brooks together as well as Barbara Alston.
I guess Darlene wasn't an 'original' per se with the rest of the high school friends, but I loved this group as a kid; they were really one of the radio groups that particularly caught, and everyone's, eat back then; but i was a very young impressionable rock fan and only 8 to 10 years old; This girl group and Roy Orbison helped prime me for Dion which totally blew me away at 10. That was it till the Invasion. there were many other pop and rock artists I loved but Dion had that rhythm and blues thing plus the doo wopping Del Satins replacing The Belmonts. I was the Key young pre-teen with the AM transistor glued to my ear. When The Crystals came out of it made the world sparkle and your heart ache nice ways you hadn't experienced before listening to this older teenage stuff....i still find them glowing and remarkable. I've never seen twenty feet from stardom but Pulenty of Darlene Love almost my whole life.
Once Wilson Pickett got to me after Elvis already had, I was done for. Mustang Sally seemed to change everything about soul and pop music and that r and b thing before i was calling it anything other than rock and roll or soul music.
As for Brits; the first time I heard Dusty Springfield she had me completely.
I had everything possible on her; I went nuts before i knew what a nuts record collector was. I bought imports (I lived in nyc) , she was on different labels with different, sometimes double compilation albums out in the States. I hadn't seen a UK release proper yet. Beatles were Capitol; the London stuff seemed very British, those Rolling Stones. Before I knew it was Decca related.
...yeh Dusty; i hold her up as one of the best and most personally important to me; it hasn't been for a long while now; except for certain cuts; but i'd spend years listening to Dusty albums on the same stacked turntable with my favorite Stones and Kinks records. Dusty really had something brilliant, tender and unique. She had that 'perfect' "Broadway" kind of belting power if she wanted to throw it, but that rasp and tenderness and phrasing; just her sound; she's like a Van Morrison or Ray Charles; her sound is so distinctly lovely; Darlene too; but Dusty as a recording solo artist with big hit after bit hit in The States, tho we were far from knowing her like Brits do, well she was very major to me but i don't think I've shared about it.
And not just in Dusty in Memphis and the acknowledged soulful Atlantic stuff she did for them that all the critics and fans loved; with the Son of a Preacher man Hit...(probably a cover, (Rockman is there a gospel original??)

but i also LOVED all the early pop singles at the earliest "Liverpool beat' days we were hearing about...

No Security San Jose 1999. Probably my favorite Stones live release ever if I'm honest. Especially now with Spotify it's so easy to turn it on whenever I'm on the computer. Sound quality wise San Jose is 10x better mixed than Miami 1994 and Bremen 1998 based on what I've heard so far.

The new Santana album on Tidal - for what it's worth, it's a departure from the comfort zone and it's brilliant.
