This guy knows a little about freezing on a tour bus.
He didn't make that flight that Buddy Holly and Richie Valens made that day.
He just couldn't spend the forty bucks; thinking that was what his old man
had to sweat out for a month's rent in the Bronx back then.
I'm not sure when he cut this. He started having Big Hits with The Belmonts
in 58. He hit so hard with Runaround Sue, The Wanderer, Ruby Baby and a whole
lot more. this guy is real rock and roll as far i'm concerned; always was.
born to be a brilliant star with 60 years of albums and shows thru all
kinds of deadly and heavenly stuff. The Man. Maybe it's a New York thing,
but I don't think so.

I had the album on Leathur Records but Roy Thomas Baker really
rescued the thing. love it.
i just can't tell anybody except people who were teenagers back in the early 80's and are old fahts now.

it do rock . that mars cat is out of his mind.
for me this is pretty much a 'one album band' and the debut album at that.
i hate to admit how many times i listened to this whole album in it's entirety
back then. I liked very , very few other 'hair bands' the first guns and also Ratt seemed interesting to me. Poison had that One Hit Wonder thing goin'....
then again Dandy just turned me on to Hanoi Rocks and they totally knocked me out; i'm going back for some more of that.

The Dovells first national hit was "Bristol Stomp", a dance song.[1] This was followed by the similar hit "Do the New Continental" (featured in the John Waters movie Hairspray for a minute). "Bristol Stomp" sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc.[2] They appeared performing both songs in the Chubby Checker movie Don't Knock The Twist in 1961. They released a series of singles over the next few years. These included "You Can't Sit Down", a top hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1963. Len left at the end of 1963 for a solo career under the name Len Barry. The high point of his solo career was the Top 5 smash "1-2-3" in 1965, and the follow up hit "Like a Baby".

The Dovells released "If You Wanna Be Happy" on the album You Can't Sit Down in 1963. The song was previously released by Jimmy Soul earlier that year and based on the song "Ugly Woman" by Roaring Lion.

In 1963, American Bandstand signed the band to Dick Clark's Caravan of Stars national U.S. tour which was scheduled to perform its 15th show on the night of November 22, 1963 at the Memorial Auditorium in Dallas, Texas until suddenly the Friday evening event had to be cancelled moments after U.S. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated that afternoon while touring Dallas in an open car caravan.[3][4__________________________________

if that's carl on the guitar; i'm not sure; but that's a damn excellent guitar track...those 16th notes on an organ or some kind of pipe; wtf, brian is out of his mind....that organ is pretty amazing; so are the harmonies; the rhythm guitar 'answers' the "call and response" thing with the bg harmonies, adding a percussive element; every time that organ comes in it kills me....
it's thick; the guitars are thin but perfectly in the groove it' surf guitar fenders...it's so crisp; it's so fricken anybody can play it, if they FEEL it; and this is pretty amazing chuck berry music...
