King Of The Whole Wide World = (2003 Sony Remaster) · Elvis Presley · The Jordanaires

in '61, elvis at 28 and out of the army and about to make a shlockfest of bad
movies he got sick and speeded out and needed out; or something more commensurate with his huge gifts and heart; which he obviously wasn't getting and was a watered down increasingly over the years; but this is no 'there's no room to rhumba in a sportscar' kinda shit he's just sort of read and sing a couple of times for a shit soundtrack; i don't remember much of Kid Galahad and expect it will be sholock; he's not gone into training like the young actor who played Ali or Robert De Niro or one of them who got into at least decent enough shape after working with trainers and nutritionists and all that....
but he could more than sitll sing here; as he's later prove when he made a divine 2nd coming, laughing all the way, in '68, on a tv set that looked more like a jr. high school play; which was also probably the only way to capture a beast like Mighty Joe Young or KING Kong for a bit; he's sort of has to go along with the chains; he's sort of into it cause the people who took him out of memphis i mean africa, sorta are encouraging him to go into show business; the chick plays as tears go by and it's mellow; you throw him into a shit movie with no chicks in lace pajamas who smell good playing stones ballads and it's another deal. yeh; i know what you're thinking. they did give him drugs; they shot him up with something; or those tramps slipped him a mickey; i don't remember; i'm hops not Roger fricken ebert, ok? most people just leave a song and split; i don't do you like that do I? don't even answer I'm on a mission....
now this here King stuff is rock and roll; forget what you think you know and like; this is the Jordinaires; those baggy pants have happy wanderers do not kid yourself. elvis would perform when he broke down Vegas into Las Elvis land for exactly as long as any time anybody ever booked him ; anywhere...
the piano the sax; the turnarounds; the jump in it; i mean without the King
it's a scorching track; it's not the movie shlock yet here....
it's probs a bad movie i don't recall...
[bootlegs.elvis.com.au]

**There's a "Tupelo's Own" Live CD that has AUDIO on all the very early performance clips. I'd never really heard the BAND like this; or him so raw and ready and gleeful and young and powerful and facile all at the same time.
tho i'd seen, most of us have seen at least short clips of these embedded into other documentaries or shorter youtube attempts or television attempts at same....so, i just found this; there are much more knowledgeable and serious fans here who were probably on it and maybe posted about it; and i'd like those links if so...please....but i'm sort of in the process of re-discovering a Lot of the sixties before the Invasion; which affected me deeply; more than one of my favorite bands are UK. The most sterling country rock and roll band with incredible steel guitar and amazing , just amazing rhythm section Much more in the pocket; but dancing around it like cowboys on swing street; but it was hard rockin' rhythm section driving these long haired cowboys; i went up afterwards, i hadn't expected to see them at a street festival in a city not too into country music....that ROCKED; .... yeah it was like Hard Days Night; i couldn't understand much; fricken Brits down to that amazing steel player just sat there staring down the whole time like a rock in a windstorm creating heaven above it and unconcerned with a little hurricane now and again; but it was sweet; and it wasn't copy; it was soulful; so it's impossible to know when it hits....
but this early Elvis at the fair; with people genuinely just losing it before it was cool AT ALL to be losing it like that outside some Baptist scream fest; byos, bring your own snake, affair. this is jump music informed by the forties with the JORDANaires; the drummer and guitar were putting OUT. it's the real deal; i'm a little blown back cause i just heard it for the first time; and brought it here blind...

it's probably been around a long time and is only new 'news' to me,
but listening to King clip above got me into a little Elvis ride...

Bob Dylan Senor (Tales Of Yankee Power)

Señor, señor
Can you tell me where we're headin'?
Lincoln County Road or Armageddon?
Seems like I been down this way before
Is there any truth in that, señor?

Señor, señor
Do you know where she is hidin'?
How long are we gonna be ridin'?
How long must I keep my eyes glued to the door?
Will there be any comfort there, señor?
There's a wicked wind still blowin' on that upper deck
There's an iron cross still hanging down from around her neck
There's a marchin' band still playin' in that vacant lot
Where she held me in her arms one time and said, "Forget me not"

Señor, señor
I can see that painted wagon
Smell the tail of the dragon
Can't stand the suspense anymore
Can you tell me who to contact here, señor?
Well, the last thing I remember before I stripped and kneeled
Was that trainload of fools bogged down in a magnetic field
A gypsy with a broken flag and a flashing ring
He said, "Son, this ain't a dream no more, it's the real thing"

Señor, señor
You know their hearts is as hard as leather
Well, give me a minute, let me get it together
Just gotta pick myself up off the floor
I'm ready when you are, señor

Señor, señor
Let's overturn these tables
Disconnect these cables
This place don't make sense to me no more
Can you tell me what we're waiting for, señor?
