Great pics. Wasn't someone going to interview the people seen in Gimmie Shelter and write a book? That would interest me greatly. I always wonder who the people were that are on film.

We’ve talked Altamont to death here in years past so there’s no reason to dig it up now.
One thing that always intrigued me though was that Alan Passaro dude,he ends up in the middle of this whole scene and then years later dies under some weird circumstances.the cops said he was found face down in a canal wearing a money belt with his Mercedes parked nearby.
They said he refurbished old cars for a living but that looks like a drug deal gone bad.
It’s weird they never say if someone drowned the guy or shot him or what, just “found floating in the canal”

I read once that they thought he tried to swim to get away from whoever was chasing him and he got tired and drowned. He interests me also. Did you see his picture on find a grave?

I found that Passero obit posted on Ronnie Schneider website. Sent it to him years ago.
Also handed same to Bill Wyman at his Union Square book signing.
As for Passeros 1985 demise. 2 theory’s, he was dealing independently from the Angels, saw trouble in his rearview mirror and ran for his life, succumbing to cardiac arrest in the middle of the reservoir.
OR he was very high or very having a hellva flashback, feared for his delusional life and made same effort to flee.

NEW YORKER article headline incorrect. Meredith was not murdered. Passero was acquitted.

SKILLS
Altamont was just a mess, the counter culture was a different beast on the West Coast, a very good friend, took a flight from England to NY for the adventure of 3 Days & has often spoke of the tangible difference between each scene, the underlying sleaze of Cali v the naivety of the Eastern states, children raised protected after WW2, one was a hallmark of Woodstock whereas Altamont... we all know the story

That was George Harrison's reaction when he went out to San Francisco a couple of years earlier.
The great mystery writer Ross Macdonald set some of his novels among those young people.

Gas Light Street, the poster was probably referring The New Yorker magazine itself.

Oh.

I suppose if someone is offended by such a publication, ha ha, then, well, you know...

Man if someone in the crowd here
hadda turned on Mick ….scary
no no don't wanna think about it …….

I count three uniformed SFPD officers in this crowd shot. So, did the cops just escort Mick in and then split and leave the rest of the show to the Angels?

(I never knew there was any police presence at Altamont.)

They're definitely not SFPD. The SFPD doesn't have jurisdiction over Livermore (over 30 miles from San Francisco). They could be uniformed private security guards, or Livermore or Alameda County officers. They may have been called later in the day due to what the Stones witnessed with the Angels. There aren't enough of them to make a meaningful difference, in any case.
