Sorry, this picture is definitely from the 1973 European Tour during which Keith used it for Midnight Rambler.
I remember pictures from late 1973 from Musicland Studios in Munich on which MJ played the guitar.
Right - if you read a few posts further from the original erroneous guess that it might be 1970 (or whatever)
several people chimed in to say it's from 1973. Taken by Ilpo Musto, apparently in Antwerp.
This fan-fookin-tastic photo is taken from rehearsals at Londonderry hotel a day or so before the filming of the Rock and Roll Circus.

I see Getty has a different location than the Londonderry hotel, so I'm not the only one :E

That setting is definitely Olympic Studios and the trousers look Circussy, so how about:

Yup, it looks like the psychedelic custom had grovers fitted in time for the 1969 USA tour, but most definitely for the 1970 European tour.

Somebody has said on the MT's Guitars Thread that Keith didn't play any LP on the 73 Tour. Now, I have this pic with a LP Custom, capoed for MR, which I have never been able to date properly. I used to think it's from the 73 tour, but it seems to me now that it could be from 1970, though. Anybody has a clue??
This one has got a P-90 at the bridge. Not a Black beauty?
