Looks like a ghost on Keiths guitar. He was haunted and came up with Midnight Rambler. One of the victims of the Boston Strangler? Maybe it's just the spotlight.

There have been so many things/ guitars stolen and simply lost in those years.
Same goes for tapes unfortunately!

And if it comes to interviews and memories you shouldn't even trust in Keith' words.
On smack and coke you tend to forget and mix up many things!
To believe stories from those times you should have gotten them from 2-3 sources to be sure. (Or you're completely muddled than!) LOL

btw. thanx for the many great pics! The one from the ad is nice as well!

I have had some conversations with a guitar tech who had worked for the Stones since the late 70's, and all this information came through him. But, for whatever reason, some of his information has turned out erroneous (the years, age, who knows...). He was the one who stated that Wood's pearl Zemaitis and Keith's Macabre Zemaitis got stolen in New York on the '78 tour, but both guitars have showed up later on (the pearl Zemaitis even in 1981).

About the Customs: Keith seemed to have had two: one already on '66 which recieved the paint job in early '68 and this one he gave away (or left in the shop), and another one which he added before the '69 tour. According to the '78 press shot, he still has that guitar.

There's anouther missing guitar that has shown up: his '57 Strat he used for Brown Sugar on the '72 tour according to stories got stolen, but in 1988 Keith used it for various press picture shootings.

Hmm, I've just noticed that it appears the psychedelic custom had Grovers fitted in time for their 1969 USA tour.

That must have been due to the bended D-string tuner I guess.

Yup, it looks like the psychedelic custom had grovers fitted in time for the 1969 USA tour, but most definitely for the 1970 European tour.

(Taking this one back to life...)

Somebody has said on the MT's Guitars Thread that Keith didn't play any LP on the 73 Tour. Now, I have this pic with a LP Custom, capoed for MR, which I have never been able to date properly. I used to think it's from the 73 tour, but it seems to me now that it could be from 1970, though. Anybody has a clue??

This one has got a P-90 at the bridge. Not a Black beauty?

That IS the original black beauty les paul custom.

Are you sure that's a 1957 les paul custom? The fretboard, tailpiece angle and the headstock suggest otherwise.

I've been in contact with someone in the UK who was asked to authenticate a certain customized les paul custom a few years ago, he played it and say's it's 'a great guitar'.

Interesting comment by John Catto from the les paul forum on the where abouts of the psychedelic custom.

'That guitar is back in Keith's hands. At some point in the past he gave or loaned it to Alan Rogan who had it for a bunch of years. After the photo of it came out in 50 Years of the Les Paul he remembered and requested it back for sentimental reasons.'

Keith's triple pickup black beauty les paul custom with the painted on stuff is in
the British music experience at the o2.

Not the painted LP Custom, but the second one he used used for open G on the 1969 tour.

Oh sorry - it looked painted to me in the link (I didn't have time to watch the clip)
but I guess it was just reflecting in a semi-psychedelic way.
