What are those amps in the '68 pics? I see Vox cabinets, but the amps they're actually plugged into are obscured. Thanks.

>> I think KR used a 3 PU LP for a few songs with the Wino's in 1988, onstage in Hollywood <<

the DVD isn't the whole Palladium show, of course, but this single-pickup L5S is the only Gibson Keith's using in it (on Take It So Hard and How I Wish)
it seems to be the only Gibson i've got photos of him with in 88.

i ran across a few more photos that might be of historical interest -
sorry about the quality of this first one, but it's clearly from the same session as the shot in the first post on this thread:

- 1969, courtesy of timeisonourside.com

these next two are from 1977 -
do any of you good learned Keith Guitar Connoisseurs know what he was using a 3PU Custom LP for in that timeframe, other than for photo shoots?

- both 1977, both by Ken Regan, both courtesy Govinda Galleries

bill wyman way out in front of 80s fashion there with the acid-washed jeans. Impressive...

And has ron's hair ever looked more like a wig?

keith looking very seductive on the other hand -- maybe it's the Custom.

Haha! No wonder Jagger did not approve of the bottom two pics. They used one pic from those sessions for Magazine covers in that time. I kept seeing it in NYC. Ron is in the forefront displaying the inside of his Tshirt with a babyface.

That first photo looks so much like Olympic Studios. If it is LIB sessions, I alwasy thought the guitar on YCAGWYW was that black LP. But we have Charlie on drums in that photo. Maybe this was before Jimmy took over on drums.
In LWM I have seen Keith play LP, Monkey Man.
refelcting on the overall guitar sound of that album I would say that much of it is on LP. It is a very Gibson album. Not at all Telecaster like the 70's.

>> That first photo looks so much like Olympic Studios. If it is LIB sessions <<

yep, that is indeed the LIB sessions at Olympic Studios.
but would you fill in the blanks as to why you think they're at work on YCAGWYW in it, please and thank you?
it seems this guitar got quite a work-out on this album.
Mathijs noted that the first photo in this thread is mighty good evidence that this is the guitar on Midnight Rambler;
this shot here is way too blurry for me to make out crucial details, but it sure looks like it was taken shortly before or after that one.
i suppose they could have been playing just about anything, really - warming up, horsing around and/or nailing a piece of forever.

smile: a true but irrelevant quote from a different studio:
"We want a warm lovely sound from you, Wyman - quit donkeying about!"

(Taking this one back to life...)

Somebody has said on the MT's Guitars Thread that Keith didn't play any LP on the 73 Tour. Now, I have this pic with a LP Custom, capoed for MR, which I have never been able to date properly. I used to think it's from the 73 tour, but it seems to me now that it could be from 1970, though. Anybody has a clue??

Bruno, that there is 73 for sure. The hair, the jacket. It seems like one common denominator through all the guitar threads has been that as far back as inception date Keith prefers LPs for the Rambler. Even in 73.
That is probably as long as Keith's hair ever got.

"...no longer shall you trudge 'cross my peaceful mind."

i too am sure that shot is from 73, Bruno. Keith's hair was real long in 69 as well, but it was wasn't curled like that until 73.
i always wonder who had the nerve to do that to Keith while he was passed out one day. :E

but i dgress, sorry! there are shots of Keith with an LP in 75 as well - when someone said he stopped using them after 72,
they were just checking whether we're paying attention. :E

ps: Bruno's shot has vanished into the mists of time, but if memory serves this is the one:

Thanks, dears. So I was right after all, and then Keith still played a LP by 1973. I suppose the same one used on the 73 tour...

In fact, this picture was taken in Antwerp, October 15, 1973. Another picture of the same moment and maker is the front sleeve of Run Rudolph Run single. Keith used the 1954 LP Custom for MR the entire 1973 tour. This guitar can also be seen in Jagger's hands on the Dynamic Sound Studio pictures, and later the Munich studio (with that Moroder guy).

What do you see in the so called "psycedelic" painting?

I don't think its so psycedelic if you look at it in the angle it was painted.
I see the earth with a bleeding volcano, the sun, the moon and stars

Just a guess, but they look to me like Vox "Supreme"s which were Vox's top-of-the-line amps in Britain from 1966-69

"That was done on a full-bodied, Australian electric-acoustic, f-hole guitar ... <<

i just recently inquired about that one in the context of Gimmie Shelter, and Mathijs identified it as a Maton (thank you!),

I distinctly recall an interview where Keith Richards said he used an Australian guitar (more than likely a Maton) on Gimme Shelter. I think he borrowed it from an Aussie backpacker. He said the neck of the guitar fell off during the song and you can hear it in the fade out. I've not listened for it though.

yeah - that's what i was referring to, terraplane.
what Keith said is that there's a take on which you can hear the neck coming off on the last note -
as if the neck coming off would be anything *but* the last note :E -
it's not something you hear on the released track. here's the quote: [www.timeisonourside.com]

meanwhile: very nice shot of Rock & Roll Circus Keith, Rockman - thanks!
is that from that 365 Days book? the photo credits are listed in the back of that, i hear ... :E

well ... i don't know what exact date this is, but it could certainly be post-tour:
