They do have new songs! They worked on them for most of February. They just aren't ready to be released before the tour, and the Stones wanted to release something. The live tracks might encourage people to buy a ticket. I was front row when Dave Foo Fighter played in "Bitch" and it was great.

Just made my own playlist of HONK but changed one song out - put Shattered in for Streets Of Shit.

Used all LP versions. Will give it a few plays. Nothing wrong with having an updated REWIND...

Once The Stones have finally ceased to be, you can bet the record companies will be giving us a steady diet of compilations,
All, slightly different of course.
Example: Elvis Presley:
-289 Studio Albums
-1942 Compilations
according to the Discogs site.

Yes of course - I meant while they're still in existence as a band!
But considering GRRR was released only seven years ago, there's a chance they will release another prior to the 2025 tour - my only hope is they have an new/original album out before then.

The Last Time might have been a good title, as in this will be the last time we will ever release another compilation.

Want odds on that?

The artwork for HONK is made by Tobias Hall

One could argue that the Rolling Stones do not really need to be releasing new albums, but one thing is sure: they chose the right designer for their cover art.

For the album’s branding, they commissioned Tobias Hall, a freelance illustrator, letterer, designer and mural artist based in London. Using the Rolling Stones iconic tongue logo, a layered font, some textures, and bright colors, Hall designed a powerful brand for the album.

hw.. How nice of them to release something..
I mean.. Come on. They could have released tons of more quality, intersting stuff than just a compilation and some live songs.
This is easy money. i dont blame them.. ofcourse they need the money.

They should have used Cold War Steve.
If anyone can download an example of his Brexit inspired work, please do!

sometimes you got to wonder how many songs are left that have never been on any compilation or live album… Maybe it's even time to release a compliation album of such songs that have never been on a compilation album…

I think the design and the colors are nice, and as a whole it's a nice cover imo - it's the HONK! part that turns it in to a cartoon and sort of ruins it.
At least there was some creativity involved vs. the cover of Blue and Lonesome - a nice blue tongue yes it was (looks good on a black t-shirt), but as an album cover it was boring.

Agree the HONK name leaves something to be desired.
Felt similarly about Grrr.. and I warmed up a bit. Marketing must tell them that easy four letter words (insert joke here) must work at grabbing attention or something.

But I rather like the graphics, and if I'm not mistaken (which is a coin toss) it appears they used Ronnie's setlist artwork (or very similar) on it, which I suggested earlier and like. Compared some of the lettering, it looks to me to be his, but ??. Also saw a t-shirt (not the official ones on their website) with the lifesaver tongue on it that was very nice.. more merch to come no doubt.

Credits for HONK! (as seen on back cover): Illustration and lettering - Tobias Hall

Browsing through his website, and he has some serious illustration skills. And being relatively young at only 31, he's very well established.

Len Peltier did JUMP BACK.

The EP had Start Me Up, Angie and Brown Sugar.

Looking at that original JUMP BACK song list, it looks like a stronger release compared to HONK (if we base judgment on the quality of individual songs and do some maths). And REWIND is even stronger. And then probably MADE IN THE SHADE is slightly topping even that.smiling smiley

The problem with updating the post-71 (Promotone) era 'greatest hits' is that the more it covers in years, the more quality is dropping as the years go by...winking smiley

That said I think it is a good thing that HONK is a rather latter-day emphasized collection (for example, three cuts both from BLUE & LONESOME and A BIGGER BANG and including both GRRR... cuts). Like saying that 'look, we have released stuff since the 70's classics and "Start Me Up", even rather lately'. It is a way to introduce not-so-obvious material to 'fresh ears'. Who knows, if that even encourages them to play more live that material, since they have this policy of giving their audiences about only material the audiences are supposedly familiar with (hmm.. probably notgrinning smiley). If they have had more guts - and hits - lately, they could have covered just the post JUMP BACK era. But that is just an idealist thought, no correspondence to reality (they always need to start with "Brown Sugar" and have "Tumbling Dice", "Angie", "Miss You", "Start Me Up", etc. in order to sell the product).

Anyway, I have always felt that many people buying Promotone era hit collections, and not familiar with their dualistic existence or with the band per se, and thinking 'yeah, now I get all the big Stones hits' are doomed to be feel a bit disappointed... 'hmm.. yeah yeah, "Brown Sugar", "Angie", "Start Me Up".. great great.. but haven't they also got some other great songs, such as that one which goes "I can't get no satisfaction" or "I see my red door and want it paint it black" or "hoooo-ooonky tonk women" or the one with that cool riff which says "gas gas gas"...'grinning smiley

Someone will give'em a hint that they'll find the other great songs on the Hot-Rocks-Compilation - and that they'll need both Albums to cover the period from 1964-2016 .... smiling smiley

I just looked up promo code musicvaultz on google. Took me to a site that offered a 20% coupon, which was old but took me to the musicvaultz website, which prompted me to sign up for their newsletter, in exchange for 15% off code.

Did that, used the code vaultzvip and that worked for my purchase. Don't think you'll need to sign up if you just use that code.

That sums it up. HOT ROCKS and HONK at this point covers close to everything regarding worthy singles (for some reason Shattered and She's So Cold were left off in place of the lesser singles Rock And A Hard Place and Respectable) from 1964-2016.

Which is pretty good, really.
