A trend, maybe?

Honestly, I'd rather hear new versions of the War Horses re-recorded in the studio.
Keith says the songs are babies when the record goes out. Then, they "grow them up" on tour.

I'd love to hear something like that.
Maybe, they can call it:

Let's see how much it sell, Elton John's latest hits set Diamonds went Gold in the U.S and is still charting, Tom Petty's latest hits collection just charted at #16 in the Billboard 200.

Thanks to streaming, there's still market for greatest hits albums.

Disc: 1
1. Start Me Up
2. Brown Sugar
3. Miss You
4. Tumbling Dice
5. Just Your Fool
6. Fool To Cry
7. Angie
8. Beast Of Burden
9. It's Only Rock 'n' Roll (But I Like It)
10. Doom And Gloom
11. Love Is Strong
12. Mixed Emotions
13. Don't Stop
14. Harlem Shuffle
15. Happy
16. Rain Fall Down
17. Undercover (Of The Night)
18. Emotional Rescue
19. Saint Of Me
20. Wild Horses (with Florence Welch)

Looking at the track listing for the single disc version. It's pretty good, though I would have added Out Of Control, dropped Mixed Emotions and added Before They Make Me Run.

Rain Fall Down is an unusual choice. I like the song, but for a new Greatest Hits I would have probably chosen Laugh I Nearly Died or Rough Justice.

I am glad that Saint Of Me is getting some love! I think that's a great song.

Disc One

1. “Start Me Up”
2. “Brown Sugar”
3. “Rocks Off”
4. “Miss You”
5. “Tumbling Dice”
6. “Just Your Fool”
7. “Wild Horses”
8. “Fool To Cry”
9. “Angie”
10. “Beast Of Burden”
11. “Hot Stuff”
12. “It’s Only Rock ’n’ Roll (But I Like It)”
13. “Rock And A Hard Place”
14. “Doom And Gloom”
15. “Love Is Strong”
16. “Mixed Emotions”
17. “Don’t Stop”
18. “Ride ‘Em On Down”

Interesting to see rock Off, Hot Stuff, and Rock And A Hard Place make the cut. Two from Blue & Lonesome is interesting as well. I'm not a huge fan of Mixed Emotions, but I'd rather have that than Anybody Seen My Baby. This is a pretty solid first disc here.

Disc Two

1. “Bitch”
2. “Harlem Shuffle”
3. “Hate To See You Go”
4. “Rough Justice”
5. “Happy”
6. “Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)”
7. “One More Shot”
8. “Respectable”
9. “You Got Me Rocking”
10. “Rain Fall Down”
11. “Dancing With Mr D”
12. “Undercover (Of The Night)”
13. “Emotional Rescue”
14. “Waiting On A Friend”
15. “Saint Of Me”
16. “Out Of Control”
17. “Streets Of Love”
18. “Out Of Tears”

I would have replaced Hate To See You Go with Thru And Thru. I'm surprised Thru And Thru didn't make the cut anywhere. Surprised to see Dancing With Mr. D made it on the Deluxe album twice. It must be one of those universally liked by the band. That's cool. I'm still happy that Anybody Seen My Baby didn't make this album. That's my least favorite Stones song ever.

Disc Three – Live Tracks

1. “Get Off My Cloud”
2. “Dancing With Mr. D”
3. “Beast Of Burden” (with Ed Sheeran)
4. “She’s A Rainbow”
5. “Wild Horses” (with Florence Welch)
6. “Let’s Spend The Night Together”
7. “Dead Flowers” (with Brad Paisley)
8. “Shine A Light”
9. “Under My Thumb”
10. “Bitch (with Dave Grohl)”

I'm frankly amazed that Honky Tonk Women didn't make the album titled "Honk". Satisfaction and Jumping Jack Flash also failed to make the grade. That's surprising, but I'm glad they featured the deep cuts instead of the warhorses. This is more like a long bonus EP than a real live album replicating the concert experience.

It also would have been cool if they embraced the guest concept and had the entire album featuring guest stars. Maybe that would have been too much. Would it have killed them to include a track of Midnight Rambler with Mick Taylor?

That said, all these songs are winners. I still think they could have easily added another eight songs and at the very least satisfied my sense of symmetry.

I listened very carefully and you are wrong, Wood's track is not overdubbed, he simply cleaned up the sound as usual on live albums. Even his guitar solo is identical.
No offense for anyone but I have the impression that in this forum there are fans who today are no longer fans. I have the impression that whatever the Rolling Stones do is never good and I am sure that when the new album arrives there will still be the usual controversy. All this is very pathetic, because the Stones are a band of over 70 years old, it's a miracle that they are still there and that they still play. In life we must also be content and not always expect ... if you do not want to buy yet another HIT Collection no one forces you, but there are people who will appreciate it.

There is so much great new music out there, but you won't find it in mainstream media or the Billboard charts. It's happening in underground clubs and it is being written about in independent media. When Rock & Roll started the situation was basically the same – it was a regional phenomenon, ignored by the mainstream media and Sam Phillips was selling records out of the trunk of his car.

A great release. I mean it. I am just happy to be fan of them as long as they are alive. And to get my hands on new vinyl with new live releases - I am excited. Plus personally - I like the cover art. Looks prettier than Grrr or Jumpbackk to me at least.

I agree.

Looking forward to the live songs, at three of the concerts, a nice way to relive some great songs. Get off of my Cloud in Cardiff was particularly memorable.. song vote with a little banter/hiccup in the beginning as I recall.

The best of discs are a good mix, going to make a good road trip cd, with a little B&L and other newer(I know I know) songs mixed in. A good update. Like the artwork as well. Definitely looking forward to this as well as Rainbow.

And then there was a nice version of Little Red Rooster with Tom Waits in Oakland '13...missed opportunity if there ever was one

Shame, shame, shame on the Rolling Stones for their neglect and thoughtlessness - what a waste.
Maybe they'll redeem themselves with a HONK! 2 in a couple of years when the new album still isn't ready yet.

Midnight Rambler with Mick Taylor was officially released on Hyde Park in two different Versions and you have two excellent sounding Versions from the PPV in Newark and from Glastonbury. Why need a 5th Version instead of those duets and rarely played songs (beside LSTNT)

Why this idea wasn't realized, has been answered by georgelicks recently - [iorr.org] :

"The duets live album was on plans too during 2014-2015 but it was shelved due to contractual problems with some of the guests (Taylor Swift, Kate Perry), it looks like some of it will be released now."

Great shame there isn't the option of the live stuff as a stand alone album.

A live album from the No Filter period shows would also have been valid product, with appeal to the proper fans who are now being asked to fork out for yet another "Greatest Hits" package, full of stuff they already have many times over.

There's a fine line sometimes between commercial acumen and outright greed .

I still think they could have easily added another eight songs and at the very least satisfied my sense of symmetry.

I think the problem is that the extra live album, unlike the other discs, is thought as a vinyl album - if you buy the set in vinyl it will be four discs, so the two greatest hits CDs would equal three vinyl abums. That's why the lack of symmetry. For CD buyers the live album looks 'torso'.

That said, as usual when CDs are transformed into vinyls, the result is usually artificial (one main reason why I haven't warmed up into the 'come back of vinyl'). When I first saw the track list, based on vinyl versions, those sides didn't make much sense (in terms of flow, how the songs fit together, etc.). The CD version 'looks' better. So it is rather likely that HONK - as any product today - is planned foremost as a CD version. The live album is just an extra (to attract die-hard and Ed Sheeran fans).
