I can really do without seeing the swastika. I lost many family members during WWII. I don't care who the f**k is wearing it.

With respect, a lot of us did.

But, now you know not to look in this thread, watch stones live in 1978 and avoid thousands of war related films made since the 40's.

Just hurts to see someone you admire so much seemingly making light of what it represents.

The videoclip of Brian playing the piano used to be on Youtube but I don't see it anymore. The pic of Mick and Brian together is awesome.

A cool thread, His Majesty! Thank you!

About the nazi jacket.. Brian seemingly liked it so much that decided to nick it and bring it to home England. According to Volker Schlondorff, they rented it from costume rental under his name... Well, I guess that in that context was not the worst of Brian's sins...

Seemingly Keith had picked up his one too and even earlier (but without the swastika) - and used that in Ed Sullivan show in September 1966 while performing "Lady Jane" (wonder if that's the same one he would later use in Mick and Bianca's wedding...?)

Nasty boys.

They all almost could have been killed by the Nazis and they remember and tell about it. Brian was just being provocative.

Understandable. But you got to see it in the light of the '60's pop culture, and also later on during the punk era -Nazi symbols were used in a counter culture, as showing you are 'against the system', or 'against the society'. It was really not more than just being young and provocative, being 'against' and being naughty.

It's pretty amazing that in wildly different cultures, removed in time and geography, you see women using eyeliner as an expression of beauty. And it's not like they had the Net telling them "this is what Paris and Milan have created for the new spring look".

Already Nofretete did use it.

Great photos! Thanks.
I wonder where Brian/ his Chauffeur parked his Roller? Not outside the flat presumably.
Also, worth noting that even in those heady days of fame they could still pop into their local pub for a drink.
Can't imagine Mick somehow doing that when he's staying at his London residence.
Or the others...maybe Ronnie in the past.

A bit of double parking!

Aah yes...and the infamous balcony where Brian (I think) gave an impromptu press conference. That must have been early 1967.
He looks ok in these photos from late 1966...so his health must have taken a quick turn for the worse over that winter 66/67.

That must be Chauffeur Brian P and Sue Arnold, Fan Club Secretary in the photo. Not a good day for Brian. Sue was very loyal, I believe.
Same month he did his visit to Montery of course.

Thanks HM!
Some very interesting stuff on this thread!
It, however, also drags my mind back to a year that wasn't all that nice for a genuine Rolling Stones fan. Lots of problems around Mick & Keith as well as Brian. The latter merely on his own, with many "wrong" people around him.
I remember travelling to the UK in the summer of that year and wandering around London town with thoughts you don't want to know. It felt like evil spirits were trying to destroy my favorite band and there was nothing I could do about it.
In the end Brian lost the race, but luckily the Stones as a band survived.
The simple and amazing fact that they are still around very much helps to keep the memory of Brian alive.

Dark times indeed. According to Stash, Brian's mistake was to follow the advice of his solicitors... that being to distance himself from the band.

Had he stayed closer, perhaps things might have worked out differently.

Like Mick has said, and many know - much was still unchartered territory. Today a band would deal with someone in the group getting high too much in a different way. There is rehab; bands know to take breaks. (On the other hand bands don't reach the heights of those older bands anymore either.)
Also I think the pills that Brian was known to be taking were brutal. I mean, Barbs?

I think it is incredibly interesting that georgie48 was actually already actively involved in Stones world, as this was unfolding live. I wonder what those dark thoughts while wandering down Kings Rd were.
