And how can it be gossip when there's actual quotes from Bill regarding the situation?

Quote
CaptainCorella
Whilst all of the stuff about Mandy is true, there has not (yet) been proof of the sentence posted by His Majesty as an actual quote.

(Mind you, although it's often repeated, I have never seen or been told good confirmation that the story about Stephen Wyman marrying Mandy's mum is true.)

And, having a PhD does not automatically make you a Professor. Although my partner does have a PhD and she is genuinely an appointed Professor at a university. Fans of The Big Bang Theory should sympathise with me. In this family we're Dr, Dr, Dr, Mr - I'm the only one of the four of us without a PhD.

Fixed your quotes CaptianCorella as something went haywire in your last post.

Sorry. Ta for fixing it

As for His Majesty's quote, true there has been no direct source given.
It was presented as a quote, so I am still seeking authentication, from anyone.

But as Rocky Dijon stated: "While I've never heard of the quote from Bill, I don't find it difficult to imagine",
followed by what stoneage stated: "I don't find it difficult to imagine either. We're not exactly talking about a monk here. Rather a sex addict who even brags about it",
it's not really a stretch of the imagination to think it could have been said, though I agree there should be a direct source to corroborate it.
Rocky Dijon and stoneage both express an opinion - to which everyone is entitled, and I don't particularly disagree with either. (Although 'brags' should really be 'bragged' - he no longer 'brags' about it.)

Yes, attribution would be lovely.

And while there is no absolute proof regarding Wymans son, it's been documented by many sources - including this:

Stephen Wyman

"Perhaps not surprisingly, Wyman and Smith are no longer in contact with each other. But just prior to the couple being divorced in 1993, things between the Wyman and Smith families took a bit of a left turn when Wyman's oldest son Stephen announced his engagement to Mandy Smith's mother, Patsy. That couple's marriage reportedly lasted two years, until their divorce in 1995".

Again, not absolute proof, but not sure what kind of evidence you're seeking for confirmation.
Seems to be if it was completely untrue, the magazine along with every other publication who has stated it, would have been setting themselves up for a lawsuit based on slander and defamation of character.

As for having a PhD not automatically making you a Professor - true, it takes alot of hard work and commitment beyond earning the degree itself.

I absolutely agree that the 'given' version is that they married, but I've got a nagging personal doubt about it. The breakdown between Bill (and everyone close to him) & Mandy was cataclysmic. For Stephen then to have gone on and married the mother of his dad's arch nemesis just seems odd. (As does the whole thing anyway). Some hunting brings this up from The Guardian [www.theguardian.com] and as they are normally quite good with their fact checking I guess it must be so.

I must have mis-read, sorry...

Pretty sure Bill and son Stephen are on good terms now.
He has re-married and has (or may still) done work on Bill's very good website.

The thing is where to stop taking the moral high ground?

Bill was all that and more. So was Brian, he just didn't live long enough to be more than irresponsible and abusive.

There are junkies and drunks in the band. Keith has been discreet largely, but has had several periods of womanizing as well. Mick downplays his drug use and sexual experimentation to be safely locked in the past which is disingenuous, but certainly his right. He suggests his womanizer reputation is exaggerated. Others suggest the full extent of it isn't known and involves clubs, escorts, and islands. Again, his life.

Stu was a bit of a womanizer like most guys who live on the road. Ronnie was living in the tabloids for too long, but his drug intake isn't very well publicized. He has a constitution that rivals or exceeds Keith in everything but public image.

At the end of the day, they're outlaws. John Phillips, not the paragon of virtue himself, said the Glimmers were more like gangsters than rock stars in real life.

I've heard the cartoon pirate was just a way of transitioning out of the junkie image for Keith. The "real" Keith allegedly is more Mick's twin than his image suggests. He's just as cutthroat as Mick, just as concerned about the money, just as willing to follow trends if it will pay off despite what he tells the press for the sake of musical integrity, and they both share similar nasty habits that extended well past their sell-by date according to their official bios.

So what's a middle-aged (or older) Stones fan to do? Accept rock 'n' roll bands are outlaws or mobsters (just like most politicians), love the music, and don't let your daughter (or granddaughter) "date" them.

If you want good behavior, there's always The Carpenters.

Rocky Dijon I apologize if your last post was directed at me, but I scanned it briefly and have no desire whatsoever to have a conversation w/ you on this subject.

It wasn't in the least directed at you.

It was aimed at anyone saying "shame on Bill Wyman." My opinion is simply why judge only Bill? If someone picks on Bill, they should pick on all of them if they're being honest. People aren't perfect. People given loads of weath, unbelievable fame, and opportunity are likely to be even less perfect.

Oddly enough, I thought we were on the same side, 35love.

I don’t want your ‘sides’
(that could be a deep thought, smoking smiley)

The Grammy’s again?
Oh good grief. Have other plans.

Oh, I do all that and more, but really this won't change the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1986. Three years later, at the Waldorf Astoria, Mick was much kinder to everyone including Brian, Stu, and Mr. Taylor.

It seems Mick has been attending the Grammys this year.
Why turn up unless it's to receive an award?
Clearly Mick has changed his thoughts on such matters. How establishment.
Mind you, it gets him away from the studio.

I thought he was just at a party. Did you watch the show and see him there?
Dude can’t go to a party to catch up w/ friends, associates?
I wouldn’t care if he attended the Grammy show or not, except I missed it.

I don’t know, I don’t know what he said in 1986. But sounds like he corrected an omission of names next time he could?
What were you doing in the 80’s?
I know I am a much different person than I was 35 years ago.
I would hope I wouldn’t be judged in today’s light and current era on things I might have said or did back in the 1980’seye rolling smiley

As far as awards being awarded in according to $
well the wrecka biz has always been shady
who is surprised if this is true?

I don't have a problem with Mick's speech at The Grammy's or his attitude toward the award at the time, I said as much earlier. I just brought it up to bring the thread back on topic.

For those that felt it was terrible he didn't mention Mr. Taylor, Mr. Jones, or Mr. Stewart - I was just pointing out he gave credit where due at the Waldorf-Astoria for the Rock Hall induction three years later.

I'm not a fan of judging the past by the standards of the present. I'm not a fan of the #metoo movement either, though certainly there are people who have done wrong and deserve consequences. As for me, 35 years ago I was in Junior High and subscribing to Bill German's Beggars Banquet fanzine which had just gone official. I was lanky with about 5 pounds of hair on my head. I was a nice kid then...for the most part.
