They might have won it eventually on their own merits, but maybe not.
Makes you wonder about the Blue and Lonesome grammy, though that was an untelevised minor category.

The '80s news anchor helmet hair is a hilarious look.

I think they should get an award simply for standing up there live so long. I lost interest in their stage act 20 years ago, but it's still pretty amazing. 57 years live. I'm not sure who's beaten it, even Duke Ellington at this point, though I'm sure he did a higher number of gigs.

It is an actual quote, but I didn't keep the article it was in.

I think it was from their first trip to Australia, so from 1965 rather than 64.

It is an actual quote, but I didn't keep the article it was in.

In view of the nature of the alleged quote, you'll need to do a lot better than that.

Actually, I think it's the first time I have seen Bill and Keith in the same interview (at least post early 60s). In some ways, they really are the most different persons in the band, it's kind of nice to see them together.

I'll take that as agreeing that it was an invention.

If it was real, it's IMPOSSIBLE for it not to have been widely reported at the time (after all Jerry Lee had been thrown out of the UK for less), and it would have been reported when the Mandy Smith scandal was at its height, and it would have been reported when the Rolf Harris (etc) scandals were being revealed.

The vile gutter press have been stalking Bill for years, and if this wasw real we'd never have heard the end of it. And they are more vile than you could believe - I've seen them in action and heard utterly dreadful tales of what they do.

If you search online for the phrase, the only hit you get is this thread! Duh!

I'll take it all back and apologise if you, or anyone, can source it.

That's standard practice. Late in life when (usually unwilling) retired screenwriters or directors suddenly have liftime achievement awards heaped upon them (especially veterans who previously never received few if any nominations), it is the hard work of an agent or publicist on their client's behalf. They can't get them work so they get them accolades.

Record labels likewise lobby hard for recognition for artists on their roster. Did the Stones deserve a Lifetime Achievement after no wins, few nominations, and in the same year the Foundation recognized Segovia and Benny Goodman? Did "Just Another Night" deserve its Grammy nomination? What about "Old Habits Die Hard" winning a Golden Globe dspite the commercial failure of ALFIE in theaters and as a soundtrack album? There is a valid point to be made that as the committe became younger, they were more accepting of rock artists. Remember Jethro Tull winning the heavy metal Grammy? Does this seem like something that was recognized by the committee or was recognition done as a favor to their label but because they weren't top tier artists no one paid attention to the category until it was an industry joke?

Bill was right when he said they're just getting into second gear. How could he have known the future, haha.

Where it was posted I can't recall with certainty. That an article featured Bill saying such a thing is for sure.

Not at all. I'm being thorough.

You wrote something, presenting it as an actual quote. Quite a serious alleged remark by Bill Wyman. And I reckon that it's worth finding out its source.

After being pressed you changed your account of it's origin, and now you attempt to pass it off as "possibly" and cite an exclusive group on Facebook. And that you can't recall with certainty.

In the real world it's generally considered to be a rather bad idea to make a potentially egregiously offensive remark about someone, and not be able to substantiate it. You can't. And that's deeply regrettable.

So, until you (or someone else of course) can substantiate what you alleged Bill Wyman said, it has to be considered as unproved.
