Rolling Stones Piano Man Talks Trump, Trade and Touring

Chuck Leavell spends his time off the road on his tree farm
Says rehearsals for the new Stones tour begin in March
As musical director for the Rolling Stones, Chuck Leavell knows a thing or two about tickling the ivories.
But the legendary piano man, who’s also played with...
On Thursday, Leavell sat down with Bloomberg to discuss his storied musical career, timber and trade....
...
i cut to the Stones stuff w this paste.
---
"...
BN: Enough about trees. Let’s talk about the Stones. You guys are hitting the road again in the spring. Isn’t this getting a bit old?

CL: The band gets better and better, and I mean that sincerely.
I’ve been with this outfit for 37 years and it’s never been as good as it is right now.
The songs are iconic, Jagger is an amazing front man, and Keith is one of the most amazing guitarists.
We start rehearsals in March.

BN: About Keith: He recently told Rolling Stone that he’s cut back on drinking. Can that possibly be true?
CL: Keith has amazing willpower. For somebody who kicked heroin, he knows how to shut the faucet off if he needs to.

BN: Was his drug-infused persona just an act?
CL: (Laughs) His lifestyle speaks for itself. What’s great is that the music has taken precedence.

BN: What’s your favorite Stones song?
CL: There’s so many but I have to point to "Honky Tonk Women." I remember where I was when that record came out in 1969.

BN: And looking back over your long career, what stands out?
CL: Recording "Brothers and Sisters" and Gregg Allman’s first solo record "Laid Back." It would be wonderful to say I had success with one band or one artist, but from working with Dr. John prior to the Allman Brothers to Sea Level to Clapton, George Harrison, John Mayer, David Gilmour, the Black Crowes. It’s been a blessing.
Leavell’s latest record, "Chuck Gets Big," was released in November on BMG.

"The band gets better and better, and I mean that sincerely.

What else would you have expected him to say?:

(solemnly) 'Yeah...the band is on its last legs...the guys are getting old...the songs are worn out...we're only in this for a payday...'

Thanks hopkins - "Says rehearsals for the new Stones tour begin in March" - this should be in the tour thread.
And interesting to see him somewhat agree with Trump regarding the SoCal forest fires- "There is an element of truth to that".
Seems to have thrown off the interviewer who immediately changed the subject

rehearse where in March?
must be we'll be getting All the press releases spreading tid-bits
and teases and whatevder publicity; each little click-bait thing
registers with bombardment. almost any message at all.
(even things void of fact, curiously enough), or maybe Especially 'fake news,'
when there's malevolence involved...
as the dates, and album, approach.
Curiously not mentioned in what i was hoping was a piece
we could scrape some info offa, but the Bloomberg reporter didn' go there?
maybe not a big enough sales projections by them, or...
just dense...
...or just not allowed to go there?

He must be a cowbell fan. I can't think of any other reason why HTW is when he jumped on the bandwagon.

He doesn't talk about new album. So, probably no album in the near future.

Logically it should be London as 4/5th of the band are more or less located there (or in the UK). Only Keef would have to be transplanted there. Unless a "no deal" Brexit gets in the way and creates problems for the "non-British" part of the Stones crew.

Then another bout of rehearsals on the US soil to give the live machine its final oiling. This could take place in L.A. or NYC but since the tour starts on the East Coast they would spare themselves the "pains" of jetlag by rehearsing in a city that's also on the East Coast.
(but your guesses are as good as mine).

Rehearsals could be in Miami -

Brexit should not have any impact. Most of the crew would be from US. Brexit doesn't impact UK / US relationship

Laid back. Never heard of that record. Loved brothers and sisters. But didn't know of laid back. If that's your case as well then tune in. Really nice record.

A 5th grader probably is aware of why the fires in California burned the way they did.
