Ronnie gets beat up rather frequently on the board, but it would be interesting to spin the energy in another direction and explore what are his greatest guitar moments with the Stones, both on studio albums and live releases.

Live, YCAGWYW from LYL, and 'Whip' from Sucking in the '70s.

Studio is hard to call. He doesn't dominate a song like
Taylor. The "Neighbours" solo kind of sums him up. On the
Some Girls album, though nothing stands out, his stamp is

Does Ronnie provide the solo for Look What the Cat Dragged In? It sounds like Keith strictly composed the lick and it was executed by Ronnie, but I'm not entirely sure.

I love his guitar work on "Beast of Burden" and his interplay with Keith from that time up to '82 was unparalleled. My favorite of all time though is 'Had Me A Real Good Time"'from Long Player. Great, great guitar on that one! As to live stuff anything from '75 has to be there. He had mighty big shoes to fill and he filled them well!

Actually I love Ronnie's work with the Faces. He is great with the Stones with the inter weaving styles that he and Keith played.
But with The Faces he was looser and had a brilliant touch. The Faces were sloppy but Woody always came in with a great solo or chunks of rhythm to add to the songs.

Ronnie's been a great influence on my playing for years.

Didn't Woody come up with the intro to IORR? I read that he recorded it with Charlie. I love that intro. Just figured out how to play it this past weekend.

Dead on with Too Tough; what a great number! Both Ronnie and Charlie are redhot and their interchange is truly electric.

Just listened to Undercover. I think the solo on 'The pain of love' is great!

Recently Rough justice slide and Cat dragged in guitar work.... superb!

I think Ron Wood is the best guitar player for the Rolling Stones. Mick Taylor is
also a great, but he is too soloist for this band.(of course I love his solos) But for me Keith Richards with Ron Wood is the real Rolling Stones guitar sound!!!
His best work I think was the 81-82 tour. Listen to the film "Let's spend the night together" Amazing!

The solo on "You can't Always Get what You Want" on the "It's a Gas in Paris" Bootleg, the solo on "White Horses" on the "Knebworth 76" bootleg, the bass figures on "Break the Spell" on the the "Mixed Emotions" album, and, yeah, the great guitar work on the several version of "Beast of Burden" on many live boots ,and the very long rehearsing versions of this song on many studio boots, e.g. "The Woodstock Rehearsals", first take about 7 minutes, second take about 9 minutes. Here you can hear that Ronnie is an extraordinary musician.

Sorry, not "Mixed Emotions" album of course, but "Steel Wheels".

Excluding the Faces (when he was at his creative peak) Ronnie played best live in his early years with the Stones (up to 82). From Steel Wheels onwards (and particularly from B2B onwards) his playing has really gone downhill. However, he can still shine. - Just take All Down the Line and Black Limo from Stripped (LARS B side).

Look What the Cat Dragged In shows what Ron could do if only you could hear him live! (Perhaps you can on ABB tour - I'll know when it comes to Europe).

Fave moment so far is his solo on Tumbling Dice on Stripped Companion. I get dizzy every time I hear it. And his work on ABB is great too. He rules RJ with that slide.

The solo on Tie You Up (the pain of love) is actually Keith. Ronnie has been tearing up ADTL this tour, really cooking on that one.

Question for anyone who has seen any shows from this tour, is Ronnie playing the opeing riff for She's So Cold. Keith surely isn't. I was at Fenway and didn't notice but after watching the DVD you can see that Keith is clearly not playing it. He is playing lead.

I really liked Ronnie's performance @ Bob Fest. doing "Seven Days."

Ronnie's guitar work has been minimalized within the band on this tour at least so far. Mostly fils and rythem. Nothing like the early Fall 2002 shows. Ronnie's playing as evident by CD's and DVD's regressed throughout the 2002/2003 shows. I don't know if it was due to substance abuse or what. I think I had heard that he had gone thru rehab just before the start of this most recent tour.

That being said perhaps the band does not want to put undue pressure on Ronnie with these early shows by asking him to take extended solos like he did early on in 2002 with songs like "Can't You Hear Me Knockin" which he blazed thru at the MSG 9/26/02 show. But even with that excuse in hand I can't for the life of me figure out why the guy would play out of key on a song he has played thousands of times before, which appeared to be the case on one of the early songs played at the MCI Center in DC a couple of nights ago.

I hope Ronnie is okay and that his playing improves as the tour moves along because I hope to attend several more shows this year and next year.

Listen to the faces box set 5 guys walk into a bar and you are blown away by the quality and tone of Ron Wood's guitar work, recently MSG 9/13 was Ronnie's show. All Down the Line was amazing, listen to the boot, Ronnie was locked in.

I've got every studio and bootleg release from the Faces - and although back in '75 they couldn't have picked a better partner for KR - his peak guitar work was definitely his Faces years. With a much different style I think he could have rivaled Mick Taylor if he had transferred those virtuoso skills over to his Stones days. What the hell happened?
