Stones history and the passing of time.

Maybe because I'm getting older, 44 in May, I've been pondering the closeness of notable events in stones history and getting kind of freaked out about how old these things are.

It's 50 years since Brian died. I mean it's becoming near ancient history. Amazes me that the Jones era only lasted as a fully functioning touring and recording band for 3 or 4 years. The distance and limited footage makes it feel like it's something from another world.

Satisfaction was only 20 years after WWII, the Ronnie Wood era began 10 years after that and is still going! Crazy!

More recently. the original stones would have come and moved on to the Taylor era in the same time scale of the 50th anniversary tour in 2012 to their upcoming tour in 2019. 7 years, wooooosh.

Really quite mind blowing that soon enough, Exile will be 50 years old. Wtf!?

I need to lie down.

In less than a month I will be a fan for 55 years, aaaggghhh. In 1973 I saw the Stones in Hamburg and truly thought it would be the last time. Soon after I went to the Far East for almost three years and since the Beatles were already 3 years history, I could not believe the Stones to be around in 1976. And now, another 46 years later (and you become 44!) I look forward to see them (again and again) in the USA.

I can't believe they have lasted the test of time. I'm glad they did. May I will be going to my 17th & 18th show and I see it as my last. I feel blessed to have seen them so much. Yes, I'm gonna lie down too.

Their music was evolving so much in the early days, and there was so much stuff crammed into those years that it made that span of time feel like it was longer than it was... Or something.

i find the passage of time scary.

recently turned 50, and i think, 50 years before my birth was 1918, its amazing how really close in timescale we are to events previously thought to be far away.

when you think of the stones as being 56 and a half years old as a band, to think 56 and a half years before they started would be 1906, which seems ancient.

also weird is the fact that in timescale the halfway point of the bands career is october 1990, when they were already considered old.

and what else is scary is the events of the last 200 years, the worlds completely changed and 200 years is not really a lot of time considering ive lived a quarter of that.

I don't remember, it is too long ago: Maybe, when I was your age I had the same notion. Last week I received a magazine by the pensions authorities (or however I should translate that). I'll be off the labour market when I turn 66 and four months, that'll be in about eight years. I can't claim I'm looking forward to that event... I definitely will receive not enough money to sit in a rocking chair, or by the swimming pool, I'm afraid

I don’t feel this way/ get the notion of passing time with RS.
I get it with my children.
I’m at a salon with my middle daughter whom
I had to homeschool 4th grade due to illness,
today I register her for public high school.
I need to lie down.

The Stones as a band are just a bit over a year older than I am which I've always found intriguing.
When I was two, they released Satisfaction.
When I was six, they played Altamont.
When I was 10, they released Goats Head Soup.
When I was 15, they released Some Girls.
When I turned 20, their best records were already behind them.
When I turned 30, I had only seen them live three times (L.A. 81 twice, and L.A. 89 once).
When I was 40, that number had increased dramatically.
When I turned 50, I had seen them more times than years of my life.
Now at 55 with four shows line up, that number will reach the 60 mark.
And when I turn 60, they might have the new album finished.

…… Soundtrack to me life …
though it's been a tad quite lately … HHHaaaa

But hey Stones racket has always kept the blood flowin' hot..
LD... well the poor girl switched to Adele and turned into an old maid before my eyes ....
Never seen anything like it …… Swooooosh and she was gone ….OLD …..So SAD

AAAwww yeah but anyway HM always remember da message
on that little hidden number … One More Try ….

The things that don't matter easy come and go
And the things that satisfy only come real slow
You got to know what you want in your mind
Cause it's better when you get it if you really try

So sit down, shut up, don't dare to cry
Things will get better if you really try
So don't you panic, don't you panic, give it one more try
Don't you panic, don't you panic, give it one more try

Keep on trying
Keep on trying
Keep on trying
Keep on trying
Keep on trying
You've got to keep trying
No sense to keep crying

Yeah, funny innit how things happen to bring home the passage of time.

Yesterday I drove back to where I grew up, where I spent ten bob on my first Stones ticket in 1965, when I was twelve.

I went back to visit my (younger) sister who stills lives two minutes walk from the (now demolished) venue. I went to see her as she had just been diagnosed with dementia.

My 5 year old grandson has just started learning guitar this month.
So no need to worry, the world will still be Rocking On when me and my sister have gone.

But it's left me with Mixed Emotions.

I think I need to go and lie down ............

I still think of Ronnie as the new guy. Having been a big fan during his Faces years, I still think of him in that context so that he still doesn't quite seem one of the Stones to me (which is not a criticism of him at all, just a reflection on time playing tricks with my mind. Or something).

Sorry, Hairball, I can't allow that to happen. Because I will then be 73/74 ...
I need some fresh "Stones energy", so I expect the new album to please us all still this year. We then, after this upcoming tour, can all lie down for a while to enjoy the album, while waiting for the next tour ... somewhere on our beautiful globe smileys with beer

I look at the Stones as two separate bands with distinctly different histories. The 1962-1990 band was the Rolling Stones. The world wide artistic and cultural phenomena. A wide span of artistic growth and breadth.

The Post-1990 group called the Rolling Stones is just recycling songs and ideas from the original groundbreaking band. The Second Stones, have had some live highlights, and a great blues album, but little else to show. Even their live performances lost their mojo following the long layoff from live performance 2007-2012. The best artistic achievements during the Second Stones are completed bonus tracks from the first era, and the blues album.

I am still amazed that they're still performing. Unfortunately it doesn't stir me to ever see them again, or to rush out and get a new album, when and if it ever arrives. I simply wait to see if there is still vault releases from their Golden Era.

73/74 years old...you'll still be a spring chicken when compared to good old Charlie who will be 82!!!

And after 14 years without a new album of originals, what's another short five years?! winking smiley

As I read through this, all the comments regarding the passage of time and the events through that passage brought to mind some quotes regarding aging:

"Getting old is not for sissies." - the late actor Bette Davis

"How old would you be if you didn't know how old you are?" - the late baseball player Satchel Paige

"Don't look back. Something might be gaining on you." - Satchel Paige

"Use it or lose it." - one of the statements associated with the Gray Panthers, an advocacy group for seniors

It's that old "..the sun, the moon and Rolling Stones " thing isn't it.

When you get to our age [coming up 60 in my case] and this band have been around for our entire living memory...
