OT: Chuck Berry - Gibson Signature Series Guitar announced
Posted by: Silver Dagger ()
Date: January 23, 2019 12:49

A tantalising teaser has been issued by, presumably our old IORR member CBII, on behalf of his late dad's estate, on Chuck's FB page referring to both the 2001 and 2010 films.

But what could it be?

Here's the statement in full...

"We have been on a mission for some time now. The mission is almost at its end. What follows once completed can be thought of in the following quotes...

From the movie 2001: a space Odyssey

HAL 9000 : "I can feel it, I can feel it"

From the movie 2010: The year we made contact

HAL 9000 : "What's going to happen Dave?"
Dave : "Something Wonderful"

Many will understand this much better in the coming days. The world will be a better place for it.

It's what dreams are made of..."

Deluxe Edition of ROCKIT would be my guess.

The song "California" on that album is a song someone like Dave Edmunds could re-work really nice. Chuck's version is a little rough but the basic form is there. Dave is retired, but someone should pick it up.

A documentary about Chuck, maybe?

‘Chuck Berry’ Feature Documentary Gets International Launch in Cannes (EXCLUSIVE)

by Stewart Clarke
October 13, 2018

Mipcom 2018 just got a little bit more rock ‘n’ roll after Kew Media Distribution landed the rights to “Chuck Berry,” a new feature documentary about the music legend that also features contributions from several other music icons.

Kew is launching the project at the market in Cannes after teaming with music film specialist Cardinal Releasing. Earlier this year the latter announced an exclusive deal with the estate of Chuck Berry and his widow Themetta Berry.

Jon Brewer directed and produced “Chuck Berry,” adding to his body of music documentaries, which include B.B. King: The Life of Riley,” “Nat King Cole: Afraid of the Dark,” and “Jimi Hendrix: The Guitar Hero.”

Singer-songwriter-guitarist Berry is acknowledged as a pioneer of rock ‘n’ roll. His hits included “Maybellene,” “Roll Over Beethoven” and “Johnny B. Goode.” The star died in Missouri last year. He was 90.

Keith Richards, Steven Van Zandt, and Alice Cooper are among those talking about Berry’s life and music in the film, which was made by Cardinal’s sister production business Emperor Media, and Chuck The Documentary Production.

Kew sells several Emperor titles internationally including the Brewer-helmed “Beside Bowie: The Mick Ronson Story,” which has sold strongly after its bow on Sky Arts in the U.K.

“We’re very pleased to partner once again with Jon Brewer and his team in launching the landmark documentary special ‘Chuck Berry’ to the global market, which presents a captivating inside look at the remarkable life of one of music’s greatest icons,” said Jonathan Ford, EVP of sales at Kew Media Distribution.

Posted today:

Something wonderful has happened! Today, Gibson Brands has announced the Chuck Berry signature series ES-350T today at the winter NAMM show today January 23rd, 2019. Accurate to the finest detail, we the Berry family are very pleased with the high quality construction, materials and playability of this fantastic instrument. Another step in Berry family’s goal of keeping the music and legacy alive.

Charles E. Berry Jr. (myself) & Charles E. Berry III (my son) played the guitar live on the Gibson artist stage this evening and it has our stamps of approval. Further details to come.

This is what dreams are made of...

A Chuck Berry signature guitar is a bit of an odd thing in a way .

I can see that it may be a valid commercial proposition, and attractive to collectors...

...but it never seemed that Chuck saw his guitars as much more than working tools that did the job .

I'm sure that [like all players] he appreciated a good guitar... but he was certainly no gear head .

Well, I’m glad I got everyone’s attention. Please accept my apologies for not posting in a long time but I forgot my password! I still read the page frequently and see there’s a bunch new names and faces.

Just like I said for years the new record would come out and finally it did. Now the first real deal Signature Gibson ES-350 T has been announced. We got to play it for the first time yesterday and it is fantastic!

Yeah Dad treated many of his guitars like beat up shoes but there’s were a few he Cherished. His ES-350 T’s, a 1956 Les Paul, his first 1960 ES-345TD (which he toured Europe for the second time in the early 60’s) and recorded most of the music in the 1960’s with and the single guitar he played more shows with than many combined his 1978 ES-355TDC (which was a SECOND). We where never allowed to touch the 350-T’s. There are also various 335’s, 345’s and 355’s we gave him as gifts that he rarely played on stage.

One of the 350-T’s is now in the African American History Museum with others at various museums around the country.

Dad for decades would not agree to do a Signature series due to not liking the terms. The winds of time and new owners/management changed all that. They sweetened the deal (my mom is now running the show and learned the business well) and now the day has come.

We are very pleased with the quality and exceeded our expectations.

Well congratulations on the signature guitar and the documentary. Pity we were wrong about a deluxe edition of ROCKIT. Maybe one day.

Gosh I thought it was Chuck Meat.

As always, here to help.

I dig the 2 Humbuck version that he used.
I had a couple of those circa 70's.
Of course, had I still owned them,
I could sell but one, and buy an Island in Costa Rica.
Oh well, there's always the vintage Fender I devalued completely
by having two big fat active EMG humbuckers modified into it,
yep, routing a hole for the battery.
What can I say? I was young; I needed a big bad bang.
a bigger bang if you will. oh yeh and the Bridge and the Tuning Machines,
um, and the pickguard but that's all.
But it's all mine baby and will last till the sun explodes,
as will someone playing Brown Sugar somewhere in the known or unknown Universe.
can you imagine the space people when the translations come thru?

ixnar apparently these specimens are heartier than those beetles
they appear to be exiles from street battles who have sympathy and sexual relations in different temperature extremes
and also seeming to flash like 'roobies,' and are
endeared to medicine men to the point of correspondence.
The sound had complex and propulsive
tonality figures until Bill left.

yes blobvx, i also noted that one of them wiggles it's posterior
similar to bees buzzing around a hive, but also computed beetles are stationary
except for the cute one the others seem to avoid.
The wiggler also jumps and contorts it's features,
apparently signaling hermophratic responses from lemming type hordes.
it seems out of control. teasing and baffling.
