I'd never heard of "Mickey Mouse Blues" but apparently it's an early "Child of the Moon."

Never mind, Cristiano beat me to it.

I wonder if these were the tracks originally earmarked for the 50th Anniversary release of BEGGARS BANQUET.

And thanks for spotting and sharing, Deltics.

What is the actual purpose of a copyright preservation release?

Something to do with 2018 ending and the onset of 50 years since the tracks were recorded?

Does the name "TRRSTRAX" infer anything/anyone other than ABKCO posting the material on YouTube?

I find it very odd how little they have actually protected in these 66 - 68 protection uploads.

Pretty common stuff right? What the hell are they "preserving" for? The time to put this out was on the BB deluxe.

Preserving the copyright.

As I understand it, and I'm sure people with a better understanding can weigh in, but a relatively new copyright law puts an expiration of the copyright at 50 years if material is not made commercially available. This technically qualifies as a commercial release, and therefore the copyright is preserved.

Had they not done this, this material would become public domain.

I believe that's why the Paris 67 recording was given a very limited release last year.

It either shows how little they think of the commercial value of these tapes that they obviously don't care all too much or indicates that they don't have more tapes in their own vaults and that the Stones are not interested to cooperate - in case they have more material in their own vaults.

Interestingly (or perhaps not) , I don't believe ABKCO has any rights to the Paris 65 to 67 concerts. They belong to Europe 1 who recorded and broadcast the shows Musicorama and/or it's parent company. I am currently trying to obtain a licence for a 1961 concert in their archives and it is clear that it is owned by them and I assume the same is true for the rest of their catalogue including the Stones shows.
ABKCO also claim, according to BMI.com, for example, that Don't Lie To Me is a Jagger / Richards composition published by ABKCO as is the Stevie Wonder track being discussed elsewhere on the forum.
Given that a lot more from the Beggars period is around on bootleg, it's surprising that only these 4 tracks are up for copyright protection. What about Blood Red Wine for example ? Does this mean that it's fair game and now in the public domain. We know ABKCO have a tape for it. Their copyright theories don't seem very well thought out.

Moght be the case that Blood Red Wine is actually from 1969.

Still these protection uploads are just so odd. So much is left unprotected.

What point in protecting one previously unheard recording of the work in progress COTM and not them all and repeat this process for all of their songs?

Public domain is meaningless if no one has access to the recordings.

Quite an odd situation, say they include audio from some previously unpublished recording from 1962 - 1968 in a future film, docu etc, the audio can be released by anyone afterwards.

What's to stop a label putting out any pre 1969 Stones material that isn't protected by copyright?
If it's in the Public Domain then presumably neither ABKCO or The Stones can do anything about it.

Every unpublished recorded musical note from 1968 and before, in theory, can be released by anyone.

But, you can't release something you don't have.

The Rolling Stones - Mickey Mouse Blues

According to the video description:

"COPYRIGHT PRESERVATION RELEASE

There's some other videos on this YouTube channel although it seems there's nothing new, apart from that COTM instrumental version.
