Another great soul voice gone. She was also a backup singer on the L-A recording scene. I wonder if she ever did backup on any Stones songs.

Such a beautiful voice......Rest in Peace

Clydie King, a renown session singer who sang background vocals on several tracks on Exile On Main Street including "Tumbling Dice", "All Down The Line" and "Let It Loose" has died at the age of 75. She is also credited with vocals on albums by Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, Linda Ronstadt, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Steely Dan and many others. [www.msn.com]

If you listen to some of Bob Dylan's Bootleg Series Vol 13, Trouble No More, Clydie is amazing on it. There's a 1981 Gotta Serve Somebody from Germany that is fantastic, and hearing Clydie growl at the end "You gotta serve somebody" is spine-tingling. It's one of my favourite Dylan performances ever, and all the more improved by Clydie.

Weren't the rumored to be married at one time? And she was the one that led to his interest in Christianity and therefore the inspiration behind his 3 'gospel' albums?

didn't realize the extent of her impressive musical accomplishments! Wow...she certainly left her mark.

yes I was wondering the same, I thought she and Dylan had been married?

She sang backing vocals on Sweet Home Alabama, together with Merry Clayton.

Clydie and Bob were in a relationship for a bit; she also sang on Union Sundown from Infidels, and an unreleased 1982 album.

Bob's embrace of Christianity is a matter of conjecture though, e.g. he had taken up with Helena Springs, one of his 1978 backing vocalists, who was a Christian. He also was in a relationship with Mary Artes, an actress, who was also Christian, and his former guitarist, T-Bone Burnett was a Christian too.

In a nutshell, Christianity was something inescapable around Bob's orbit a the time (1978-1979).

Plus, I think, from the 1978 Street Legal / World Tour era, Bob had to pull back a bit from the self-medicating.
