I recently re-discovered a great cover version of late Johnny Winter playing "Let it bleed" on his 1973 album "Still alive and well"

Johnny Winter - Let it bleed

(Sorry if this has posted before!)

This is so awesome as I love Johnny Winter who was one of my earliest influences on guitar . Nice Job on a fine interpretation of this Stones Classic , listen to him play his trademark slide and his soulful Texas twang singing the lyrics. Outstanding , Thank You for posting !

Really good; Johnny rocks. I like his voice and his "Rockandroll" yells!

Rockandroll,
Mops

Much like Leon Russell's "Jumping Jack Flash," this misses the charm and decadent beauty of the original. I prefer the Stones' "Silver Train" to Johnny's version as well which most would consider heresy. I guess my tastes are just more narrow. It was interesting to hear, all the same.

Great version. Johnny Winter also did other songs of the Stones, such as Jumping Jack Flash, Silver Train, and Stray Cat Blues.

Also this, and while not a Stones original, Johnny and Floyd Radford take it to a different level with some blazing dueling guitar solo's.

Winter is a very good guitarist but I'm not so fond of his barking singing style. And I don't think his versions of the originals adds anything vital. They all sound very generic. Not my cup of tea simply.

When Johnny was on he was a beast.

His best singing IMO is on Drown in My Own Tears.

No one did better Stones covers than Johnny Winter. Even where the production was a bit dated, the sheer power of his performance both vocally and instrumentally shone through.

Same here, but I do love his take of Stray Cat Blues – even with that horrible guitar sound. Maybe because I used to listen to it when I was younger..

…. Johnny's covers of Stones songs never knocked me …
barking vocals.... always sounded comical … rock

BUT BUT love his cover Percy Mayfields - Memory Pain
from Second Winter …. could spin that one all day …..

Yes, incredible this guitar handling ... If I would be banished on a lonesome island, I would take three albums with me: Exile, The White Album, Captured Live. ...

It was Johnny Winter that actually turned me into a Stones fanatic. I saw him on Don Kirshners Rock Concert in 1973 when I was only eleven years old playing Jumpin Jack Flash and all the next day I was humming the distinct bars to the song and a guitar player friend of mine told me the title and that it was by the Stones so I rode my bike down to the local K Mart store and bought my first Stones album Get Yer Ya Yas Out and it hit me like a ton of bricks and changed my life forever.

Winter's work with Muddy Waters was stunning though. Listen to those records. They still hold up.

The Muddy Waters albums that he produced are aces. Take a great band, put it in a room, record mostly live with microphones bleeding all over the place, voila!
