Dominique Tarle: Exile versus The Box
Posted by: misterfrias ()

I see Tarle has a second book, The Box, which seems to be based upon the Stones' stay in France while they recorded the Exile on Main St. LPs.

How is The Box different than the out-of-print Exile book published by Genesis a few years back?

Thanks.

When preparing the EXILE book in 2001 Tarle made several prints that were used as basis for the printing of the book. Most of them were included in the luxurious publication, a few were omitted. I believe Tarle thought the box with the prints somehow had been misplaced or something, that was the story in the intervening years at least, until it resurfaced again. Hence the name "The Box". He made a book including a few of these, and he has also sold these prints (a few are left, open edition).

The BOX (the book) was released in both French and English, though the French is sold out. For those , like me, who can not afford EXILE, the BOX is a great little book. Its not that thick, the prints a marginally darker than the Genesis edition, and substantially fewer. The BOX includes 11 images not included in EXILE.
Between the publication of EXILE and The BOX another three images surfaced, presumably from the Box collection. And at least four more has been seen in the BOX exhibition. Phew! So quite a few non-published outtakes exists!

All in all, the BOX is well worth the money if you like Tarle and have a few quids to spare in the new year.

Agreed with most points of Robberbride above.

About the so called outtakes shots, they exist, one just have to dig in some magazines or fanzines to find some.

Try

Seems quite expensive to me for what it is - only 52 images.
The Genesis published "Exile" is brilliant.
