You need to read Tony Sachez book about the Stones. Sanchez, an ethnosociologist approaches the impact the band had on 1960's society. In the last chapter Sanchez switches gears and uses a Junguian/Freudian approach to explore Mick's influence on masculinity through the 70's and 80's, with a touch of French Theory.
In short : you really need this book for your bachelor's thesis!

Can't go wrong with Mark Lewisohn's Tune In for The Beatles.

Indeed. Any book that acknowledges me personally in the thanks at the end has to be a good book!

Not sure why you would want to mislead someone that is looking for historical fact, not fiction. Probably the worst book ever about the Stones.

I have read a lot of disparaging remarks about this book. I read it and found thought it was actually very insightful. So I would recommend to the OP that he/she should probably read it and decide for him/herself.

The Sanchez book may be a pile of horse manure, or it may not be a pile of horse manure, that's irrelevant
We're losing track of the OP's original focus.
S/he's not after the best written biographies of either of these two bands, but is looking for leads on reading about their social impact.
