OT: albums concidered great which I don`t get

Boys & Girls - Bryan Ferry
Closer - Joy Division
Layla - Derek & The Dominoes, (but Blind Faith was a promising band).

Layla is a good album, imo, but I can do without the others.

I never got anything by Nick Cave. Yes, I have tried...

I like a lot of Pink Floyd but I honestly don't like The Wall for the most part. Guess that makes me weird.

Sgt. Pepper according to Keith:

"Forever Changes" by Love. I listened to it three times and just could not figure out what people hear in it.

Agreed. I love Dark Side and Wish You but you couldn't pay me enough money to listen to The Wall. ( Never have .... Never will )

The unique thing about Astral Weeks is that the band wasn't familiar with the tunes at all. So you can hear them following Van Morrison's lead, giving each song a tentative, improvised and slightly delayed feel.
Try "Sweet Thing" again - one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded.

Exactly the same for me, I have tried as well and for the life of me just do not get him at all. Maybe the "penny will drop" sometime?

Have you listened to "Into My Arms". That's a fantastic song imo....

Me too get why people don`t like it. I`ve been struggling with this album and I`ve almost never listened to it. I decided to give it a spin from A to Z before taking it to my local used record shop in order to sell it. However, I chose to keep it, but douptfully so. The young hipster behind the counter said he loved it and called it psychedelia that doesn`t take off. I feel inside a very private vision when listening to this album. There are no riffs or swagger, but more troubadur kind of music, or perhaps chamber music for acoustic guitar and voices. There is nothing of those values that I`ve learned to love through decades of listening to popular music.

thumbs up Yep.
But I'm not sure they're that well-regarded anymore. I also have to say they are preferable to solo Sting.

A sensible choice this too. The production is of it`s time (1966), but I like it all the same. However, it was a bit surprising by Mojo to vote it "the best album ever" back in 1995.

Yes to this, too. I finally managed to get through it years ago, and while it has a nice overall vibe and some good songs (the hit singles, mainly), it really does not belong as an absolute best. It's also one of the least rocking albums ever. It's more like Burt Bacharach than rock (and I enjoy Burt Bacharach). The lyricist of the album went on to write songs for the Partridge Family, and had a background as a greeting card writer.

TATTOO YOU by the Stones themselves!!!

[ CLOSER by Joy Division to me is an all time great album, comparable to the very best. However, it is music of downcast moods. Not music for everyone, and maybe not for anyone to listen to every day. But try to listen to their single " Love Will Tear Us Apart" to approach them.]

Possibly, but I can't stand his voice for the most part.

Some voices can get on your nerves because of the way that they get to you purely as annoying. But that is not the artist’s fault. It’s personal preference. Cave’s voice I love. A very magnetic stage performer too. But for me it’s Janis Joplin. I know that she is considered one of the greats from the era of classic rock, and no offense to any Janis fans out there, but for me she sounds like nails on a blackboard.

We might say the production was way ahead of its time. It was sensational. That's probably why it sounds just as good today, imo.

Funny thing is that most of the albums and artists mentioned here I love very much. It only shows how subjective things can be when we're talking about music (and the same applies to movies, for example).

Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin. Never got into them. There are few exceptions but I personally never understood why so many people adore them.

Same here. It is subjective and a matter of taste. I tend to focus more on albums that should (imo) be 'great' but hardly anyone's heard of them.
Probably millions of poor misguided souls out there don't get The Stones.
