Or they could push the whole tour back a year and play the 50th anniversary Jazzfest in 2020 (the first was in 1970), just as they pushed back the 1998 British dates to 1999 when Keith broke some ribs.

Americans, in general, don't seem to understand math and the origin of something starting, hence everything that is an inaugural occasion being "the first annual" when it's not.

However, they're counting 1970 as the inaugural year, (JF started on a zero year) so 1971 was the first annual, even though it never falls on the same date 2 years in a row, but in its second year, so... by counting the first one in 1970, 1979 was the 10th year, so 2019 is the 50th year of Jazz Fest, hence its 50th anniversary, but Jazz Fest isn't 50 years old.

That's in 2020.

"Rolling Stones cancellation is the most devastating in Jazz Fest history"

Would be great if Bruce Sprinsteen could come in and save the day.

"But who could possibly be an equivalent replacement for the Rolling Stones?"

In the spirit of wild speculation, would be interesting if The Rolling Stones ended up playing, sans Mick, the show because of the contractual obligation etc.

A complete show with Keith, Ronnie, Bernard, Sasha, et al sharing vocals.
Or a "guest heavy" show with a variety of singers sitting in.. not too far fetched given the abundance of talent already in town who would be more than willing to help out Mick and the band.

Hopefully not with Axl Rose as singer as AC/DC did. smileys with beer

There seems to be an issue of people thinking that a replacement for the Stones would get gazillions of dollars.

I'm pretty sure that's not how it would or will happen.

It shouldn't.

Obviously the Stones are irreplaceable, but this recent version of "Fleetwood Mac" w/out Lindsey Buckingham is really a step down...several steps down to be honest.
I suppose it's better than the faux-Eagles, but that's not saying much. And the reality is they were in a pinch to find someone to fill the massive void, so in that sense it's better than nothing.

I wonder how many unhappy people there are that bought scalped tickets for the Stones show that can't get their money back.

Less quality for lower prices. Ticket prices less than half the price and still all the other bands that will perform. Have never seen Tom Jones before, so that will be good. NoJa have been chasing another band and the still got a decent band in such a short time.

My sister saw Fleetwood mac in Vancouver late last year. I thought she would say that it was a good show but she said it was terrible.

Nothing like booking a band that's already had 2 postponements this tour to replace a band that's had its own postponement.

At least they didn't book Ozzy...

Being from Tennessee, this might be the one show I try for this time if it is in the Superdome. I don't want to drive a day each way for hot and humid or wet and muddy in an overcrowded standing area. I might be able to get a comp room at a Biloxi casino and drive in and out from there to help expenses.

I went to Atlanta 2015 so will hope for another show there eventually if this one does not work out.

They'll never play the Superdome again. The last time was 1994.

They won't? grinning smiley

Got our hotel last night (still may be looking to split the room with someone, has two beds) Man what I really want tho is the Gold & Black tongue logo shirt Ivan Neville wore at Jazz Fest, loved it! (I'll post a pic if I can somehow avoid photobucket and it's zillion pop-up site)

Considering this one now, safe to walk to and fro the Dome for the show? THinking about staying in in the Warehouse District, good choice?

We stayed in the garden district for jazz fest which was very close/next to warehouse district. Very nice Area. In fact I would highly recommend this Airbnb if it is available we loved it. [www.airbnb.ca]

So does anyone have an idea what hotel the Stones are most likely to be staying at?

Yes. Some good (more on trendy side) restaurants etc. Anywhere from there towards Canal are some good hotels, and depending on your legs a decent walk to the Dome (I walk to the Dome from the area when we're there) and not terrible walk to French Quarter. BUT it likely will be super humid that time of year which makes daytime walks wet smiling smiley

Highs in the mid 90s during the day, upper 70s at night - perfect summer temps!

There was a poll today on WWL radio - as of 2 PM 90% of listeners will not be going to the July 14th show.

Which may not mean much.
