Last concert takings?
I think customs is an international thing. Memphis to Dallas wouldn't involve customs, immigration or passport control would it? I suppose the Stones, their reputation preceeding them, might come to the attention of local police just as they did in the car.

I think it was the result of a conscious "logical" decision by Keef : he didn't want to or couldn't quite heroin but at the same time he didn"t want to be that "junkie dozing onstage" à la Johnny Thunders.
So Keef needed a booster : it was the Merck stuff and, as an additional bonus it was provided for free by Seesler.
The gruesome touring schedule and shows twice as long as they were in 72 made the need of a booster all the more necessary.

I'm not so sure about that. Many bands and solo Acts have had far far heavier schedules than The Stones. And not had the support of numerous Assistants, hire hands etc and of course the sort of luxury on tour which only Stones money can buy.
Bill certainly never had the need to do hard drugs...Mick was pretty controlled also.

Notice how Keith grabs the case as soon as Freddy puts it down. Checking to see if the police found everything?. I wonder what became of the car they were arrested in. As Keith put it years later "there was more dope than car in than car."
