He's doing a mini solo tour w/Brad Whitford in small clubs and theaters, and for a brief moment though of going until I read Gary Cherone is his singer - not the best choice imo.

Funny - there used to be rumours they were actually brothers!

His voice has held up well. It's a little rougher, but not bad at all.

Steve Perry was on Jonesys Jukebox radio show the other day, and he was great.
Not a Journey fan, but he has a good sense of humour and is down to earth.

Is Gary threatening to do for Aerosmith what he did for Van Halen? He vies with Ray Wilson for the biggest mistake ever made by an A-list band.

Agree on all points, (including not being a Journey fan).

Gary got the short end of the stick. He's actually a fairly solid singer, and had impossible shoes to fill with Van Halen. Has a band EVER gotten away with replacing their singer a third time? Some get lucky by doing it twice, but Van Halen, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath all failed doing it thrice, as well as many others. I don't hold that against Gary Cherone, and actually that Perry tour sounds pretty good. Cherone is a good middle of the road singer to handle that stuff and Brad Whitford on board? Thats pretty awesome.

Glad Steve Perry is back. Not a fan, but seems like a good and classy guy. I wish he played with Journey at the Hall Of Fame. Seems like the closure that lineup and its fans deserved. Especially if he's going back to singing these days.

For what it's worth, I wasn't referring to Gary Cherone's stint in Van Halen - wasn't a fan of the Van Hagar era at all, so anything after that seemed even more pointless. I was referring to his former band Extreme and the oversaturation of the sappy More Than Words back in the day. Middle of the road/adequate singer seems an appropriate description, and I really don't have much time for anything less than absolute greatness right now.
