OT: Any Janis Joplin fans out there?

Came across this. A fascinating read, IMHO, from a world that seems so long ago. It brought back a number of memories, among them, that Rolling Stone was once considered a must read of the times for music and cultural news/views. I still have packed away somewhere the RS issue(s) about Altamont and KR's interview from back then.

I`ve always had Janis Joplin Greatest Hits on my shelf. I gave it a spin last summer, only to find out that no, this was not for me.

Yes. Great voice and interesting (though too short) life

Yes, she was great and blazed many trails.

Her version of Me and My Bobby McGee was a huge radio hit when I was a kid in '71.
I then bought her Greatest Hits when I was in my teens, and there was a great documentary of her - Janis - that used to air all the time on cable tv in the early '80's.
Don't listen to her often these days, but never change the station when a song of hers is played on the radio.

When she was on she left blood on the stage as she tore her heart out in a way Judy Garland could do. But Janis was more reckless, took more risks. Her singing took her out on a limb where few singers dared to go. She was frightening. I'd pay a concert fee just to witness her singing Ball & Chain.

Love Janis. 48 years gone, yesterday.

Check her out in Festival Express, from the big Canadian train tour in the summer of 1970. She's got more charisma than anyone else on that tour by a wide margin.

Love Janis Joplin music, so gritty. Some have compared Beth Harts early work (see Am I The One) to Janis, but Beth has a better voice.

Janis is/was the greatest Female singer of all time in my opinion. Untouchable.

Funny you bring this up. I have been listening to Ball and Chain endlessly for the past few weeks. So young. So sad.

Yes, and it makes you wonder: where did those guys come from? And where did they go to after Janis passed?

I said it in another thread here a few days ago:

Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin and Janis Joplin.

To me they were the greatest women in R&B/Blues/Rock.
Well, no matter how you name it.
