OT: Keep Christiania alive.

The government in Denmark is legalizing Christiania and thus taking all the ideas of a free mini-society away from us. They're trying to close it down. Help the good people at Christiania survive please. I know many people want o keep it. Foreign countries (Especially Americans) seems to be interested in keeping it alive. The American radio host Laszlow has even written me and told me to do everything I can to keep it alive.

On Stonesplanet there's some good reading on the subject.

Thanks for your help.

How can they try to close it down if they legalize it?

Thanks Kent for bringing it up here.

Christiania [www.christiania.org] are in deep troubles. After 34 years the Danish Goverment want to legalise the place that way, that anybody can move in and build their house, but at normal marketprice - and with that in City of Copenhagen, it is impossible for Christiania to survive.

Now they have to pay normal taxes for their properties instead of a symbolic amount, it is simply not possible.

And do remember there are many Stones fans living there, and for Scandinavian people specially Kim Larsen is supporting the area a lot, and so do SORT SOL.

Well, it sounds like a good idea that anyone can live there. Why should some people pay less for their living than others? I really don't see the problem here.

It was supposed to be a social experiment. It started back in the seventies. Now it has become a Danish institution. It's a real "free place" in the urban jungle (Hey: Good name for a tour maybe. grinning smiley)
They're trying to legalize it, so it becomes a place for normal people. They're taking it away from us. Now, I never had problems with people smoking weed either (Never tried it myself), and this is the place to go if you wanna do it in Denmark (We should learn from The Netherlands). All this free space is gonna be taken away if it's legalized.

Well, Kent, gamle dansk (unge dansk); I´m an oooooooool´
Christiania-friend... Started hangin round there in mid-70s.
Defendin Christiana in Sweden is tuff shit. But I Did;
I even spoke pro-it at some political congresses & convents.
Today, as a responsible family father; I would be more critical; but I donno.
I have a real soft spot for it.
Still I dont like the Dutch laissez-faire-Line; I hope Denmark not¨
will adapt it. Sweden can´t. Booze sadly is too worked in here.

I like the free-state-thought. I´m less keen on the bikers & the anarchy =
fascism in the streets there that has taken over from late 80s & 90s.

But Its a wonderful place... And the political atmosphere in Outside-Christiania
in Old Denmark is horrifying, racistic & misanthropical.

"I har slået med knipler.
I har truet med våben.
I Har prövet at stoppe jeres
egne börns råben... "

Seems like it's a bit of a hippie hang-out. That's pretty cool! I'd say: don't legalize it.

It is Reptile. It's a good place.
YES, Baboon. Denmark is a horrible place to be. Especially if you're a muslim or something. The government treat them like shit. Well I can't go into it since it's a Stones board and we can't talk politics.

I heard that Keith and Ronnie would be interested in keeping it.
