Just received an email regarding a Deluxe box set available Nov. 9, 2018: Electric Ladyland

The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Electric Ladyland 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition video teaser

Available November 9, 2018 from Experience Hendrix and Legacy Recordings, this super deluxe box set, available in 3CD/1 Blu-ray or 6LP/1 Blu-ray formats features:

* Electric Ladyland album (newly remastered)
* Electric Ladyland: The Early Takes (unreleased demos)

* At Last … The Beginning film (40 minutes of new footage)

* CD mastering & 5.1 surround sound mix by Eddie Kramer

More About The Box Set:

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the release of the Jimi Hendrix Experience masterpiece Electric Ladyland, Experience Hendrix, L.L.C. and Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, are releasing the Deluxe Edition box set on November 9. Available as either a 3CD/1 Blu-ray set or a 6LP/1 Blu-ray set, both packages include the original double album, now newly remastered by Bernie Grundman from the original analog tapes. For the LP set, Grundman prepared an all analog direct to disc vinyl transfer of the album, preserving the authenticity. Also included is Electric Ladyland: The Early Takes, which presents demos and studio outtakes from this period in Hendrix’s career, plus a new 5.1 surround sound mix of the entire original album by Hendrix’s original engineer Eddie Kramer. This marks the first and only time this has been done with a Hendrix studio album, and gives listeners the original stereo mixes in uncompressed 24 bit/96 kz high resolution audio.

Jimi Hendrix Experience: Live At the Hollywood Bowl 9/14/68, part of Experience Hendrix’s Dagger Records official bootleg series, is another exclusive component. The never before released recording captures the band and the mounting excitement that took place just weeks before the release of Electric Ladyland. The Blu-ray also includes the acclaimed, feature length documentary At Last… The Beginning: The Making of Electric Ladyland.

Lastly, Electric Ladyland Deluxe Edition includes a full color, 48-page book containing Jimi’s handwritten lyrics, poem and instructions to his record label, as well as never before published photos from the recording sessions that were shot by Eddie Kramer himself.

No I'm not a big fan of Nazareth, though I like them. I guess they also have a box coming? Besides Jimi, I'm looking forward to the White Album and of course Beggars Banquet. This would be a great opportunity for Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin too. Probably next year plus a few more will have special 50th Anniversary Albums.

I wonder how a Hendrix 5.1 surround sound mix will turn out? I have Exile, Allman Brothers, and Songs In The Key of Life in Blu Ray audio. Exile and the Allman Brothers are transcendent.

they have a huge like $200 boxset. all of the bands official studio and live albums. several discs of b-sides, singles and soundtrack only tunes. several discs of unreleased stuff. a few of the albums are on both cd and vinyl in the boxset. there are some 45's too. its like 35 cd's and maybe 6 records

Wow, the Nazareth box sounds exciting. If The Stones did that I would be all over it. Can you imagine what the price of that would be, haha.

The only drawback is that it appears they omitted some of the outtakes which appeared on the previous Angel Air releases but there appears to be some new unreleased material as well.

Thanks boogaloojef, that's a fascinating and comprehensive delight.

so glad you posted that cause I didn't know anything about it at all.
ty...
also this Jimi project is super enticing. Original masters as source?
Including the multi-track Masters,,,PLUS the original engineer/producer
is all dedicated to bring (what we hope) is really impactful and sensitive
Mastering. Kramer should be a steady hand with this. Very good news
With both Mott, and Jimi, in massive new releases of really engaging material and bnrilliant music.

Got the Hendrix box. 5.1 sounds good if you have the set up for it. Just listened to the Hollywood Bowl show, and as I’ve read elsewhere - it truly does sound like a bootleg. And, IMO, not all that great of a show really - although as it goes along, it sounds like the crowd was goetting kind of crazy - so it’s an interesting listen, but probably not one I’ll give many more listens to.
The book is nice. Really it’s mosty worth it for the 5.1 if you have a good 5.1 set up.

Haven't listen to it yet but as for the Hollywood Bowl, they have released audience-sourced recordings before on Dagger Records, so it wouldn't come as a surprise if this one comes from an AUD, too. But earlier they also introduced the taper.

The 5.1 mix of Electric Ladyland is one of the greatest sound recordings I have ever heard. 1983 A Merman I should Turn To Be is absolutely staggering.

thanks for the head's up. i had been wondering. i try to stay away from expensive box sets & this one was right on the edge budget wise. i'll get it. i love good surround mixes. i have the 3 the Flaming Lips did (out of print) & they are wonderful. there are many others. would love to have the white album 5.1 but its just too expensive for me. have to buy stones tickets after all!

I agree, the 5.1 version is maybe THE best I have ever heard! It might be it is so good because it was done by Eddie Kramer who originally engineered it? That is the reason I got the box set, for the bluray!

Think I'll stick with my original vinyl version of Electric Ladyland - with the UK cover. . .
Especially since I'm still working my way through the new Dylan box set "More Blood, More Tracks"
