My favorite version is the one with the official video in the circus tent ( where charlie sinks in bubbles)
I always wondered if this playback could be the famous early version with bowie singing backing.
Anybody, who's got further information about this "video version"?
Keith's guitars are different takes, and one of Mick’s vocal tracks is different, too? The rest sounds identical to me..
We know that the original take, recorded by ronnie, mick and some friends at the wick, is partly used by the stones. Kenney jones plays drums, charlie only fakes in the video.
Keith deleted some guitar parts and the voice of bowie and did some overdubs.
But yes, micks voice is different as well.
So maybe they used the early version for the video??

Maybe the Love You Live version as that's the one I'm most familiar with, but no live versions are as good as the studio version.
It became kind of a joke during the Licks tour (and maybe before), and has always sounded a bit lame since then.

Agree. First heard it live on the Steel Wheels turn and it was lame. I actually thought it was lame when I first heard it on the radio. Have grown to like the studio version, which has more bite.

The one with Bowie and Kenney Jones on that they recorded at Ronnie's place. (Only joking - never heard it but it's near the top of my Holy Grail Stones' list.)

I like IORR live.... because its the Stones playing , er RR.
That said the song they play on stage, at a faster tempo and in the key of B, is a totally different song from that loose swinging cut in E on the record.
..to the point where I've never really compared them on a which is better or worse basis.
Thee are many great versions of the song they play live.
The interesting bit is how and why it became a different song when the took it the stage ?
