Ha, slow on the uptake here. Just realised that Love is Strong was never played at Miami! Anyone know why the best single from VL didn't get played for a PPV?

Lack of confidence?

Could be. The live versions I've heard are not that great tbh.

I didn't look at EVERY show from the 1994 tour but from what I can see, this show is the only show they didn't play Love Is Strong. The next show they wouldn't play it was February 16, 1995 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It was replaced by Midnight Rambler - which happened again 2-25-1995 in Johannesburg, South Africa. It was mostly dropped from a show in Australia until the end of the 1995 tour.

I found these stats on setlist fm. LiV played 61 times in 1994, 24 times in 1995, 6 in '98 then disappearing until 2007.

Actually sounding pretty good here:

I think Love Is Strong really only works if the vocals have the sinister, deep bite of the studio version, and Mick isn't going to dig that deeply for that particular song. That's why it mostly comes off half-assed.

Agreed. It COULD work. But only if Mick gives it 100 procent with conviction, with the studio approach vocals.

Would love to see them trying it again whatever the results, they have my respect regardless.

I believe it was actually Keith (not Ronnie) who painted/originated the bunny man (dancer ..whatever).

I know the album was named after the kitten .. and his dressing room ..but I recently learned Keith is the one who painted/originated the bunny man on the cover.

Can anyone confirm this?

Where did you recently learn this from, Ian? Just curious.

'Voodoo Lounge' (1994): The title comes from the name Keith Richards gave to Ronnie Wood's granny flat when he moved in there, and he painted the cover too – but somehow it was Mick's idea to use it. "I was really pissed with myself, though, after painting the sign and all," said Keef. "I'm usually the one with the cheap ideas, not Mick. His are usually real expensive."

I remember that. The NME (or "The Enemy" as Ray Davies called them) seems to have taken Keith's quote from this Rolling Stone article,

in which Keith discussed painting the sign on the door and Mick taking the album title from there and concluded Keith painted the album cover art.

I know the whole art design credit can be nebulous as to whether that is also the illustrator, but I'm still going with Mark Norton as the artist if that's the only source. I'd love for it to have been Keith, but I think his credited art for WINGLESS ANGELS is the only thing we've seen professionally from his pen and brush.

If Ian has a different and better source, I'd love to be proved wrong. It would be great if it was Keith's work, I just don't think it is.

It's possible it's Keith artwork, but the quote the NME uses isn't saying that at all when you read the context from the original source (Rolling Stone). I would expect if Keith's art was used, they'd credit him on the sleeve and promote it as such when doing press. I'm sure there are folks who know, but I've never seen a definitive answer. STEEL WHEELS and BRIDGES TO BABYLON spell out who the illustrator is while VOODOO LOUNGE leaves some question with just the art design credit for Mark Norton. Anyway, glad you brought it up. Maybe we'll find out with the new From the Vault set.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but as I was listening to my KTS bootleg of the Miami '94 show ("Miami Dice"), I noticed that Charlie reprises the "Not Fade Away" drumbeat as JJF is finishing. I never noticed this before. I thought it was a cool little touch. Maybe this was done in other shows too (?) but I don't remember it in either of the Voodoo shows I saw (Madison and Minneapolis).

Rolling Stones Detail ‘Voodoo Lounge Uncut’ With Unreleased Live Footage

Project centers around reissue of band’s 1995 concert special filmed in Miami
By JON BLISTEIN

The Rolling Stones unearthed several live performances for their upcoming
release, Voodoo Lounge Uncut, which arrives November 16th via Eagle Vision. The
new project comprises a concert film and live album, and is centered around a
reissue of a 1995 TV special that captured the Stones’ November 25th, 1994 gig
at the Joe Robbie Stadium in Miami, Florida.

On tour in support of their 1994 LP Voodoo Lounge, the concert famously
featured cameos from Sheryl Crowe, Bo Diddley and Robert Cray. Along with the
original concert film, Voodoo Lounge Uncut will boast never-before-seen
footage from an earlier concert at Giants Stadium in New Jersey. The bonus
material comprises five cuts – “Shattered,” “Out of Tears,” “All Down the
Line,” “I Can’t Get Next to You” and “Happy” – which the Stones did not play
during the Miami show.

While the Giants Stadium performances will only be available on the video versions of Voodoo Lounge Uncut, both the visual and audio formats will include several previously unreleased songs from the Miami concert. These include renditions of “Rocks Off,” “Dead Flowers,” “Before They Make Me Run” and “Monkey Man.”

Voodoo Lounge Uncut is available to pre-order and will be released in several formats, including a DVD and two CD set, a Blu-ray and two CD set, triple vinyl, digital video, digital audio and HD digital audio. I noticed on many Japanese web sites who are offering Voodoo Lounge Uncut, SD Blu-ray. I only see SD Blu-ray.

They also offer 'local' and 'import.' I'm not sure which version plays in the USA. Anyone know?

Voodoo Lounge Uncut [Import Disc] [SD Blu-ray] 005-3737 [store.universal-music.co.jp]

Voodoo · Lounge · Uncut (SD Blu-ray) UIXY-15021

Voodoo Lounge Uncut (Import) (DVD) 041-3457 [store.universal-music.co.jp]

Voodoo Lounge · Uncut (DVD) UIBY-15093 [store.universal-music.co.jp]

SD Blu-ray

SD Blu-ray disc is a Blu-ray disc on which the video is typically standard-
definition
television quality but the audio tracks can be HD quality, e.g.
Dolby TrueHD.

This is usually because the original content (e.g. a concert, show, or a low-
budget film) was shot on standard-definition video or in other low-definition
format. Thus the original content cannot be presented in high definition.

It has been said[by whom?] that standard definition content on Blu-ray and
standard definition content on DVD do not look the same. This is because
compression is far better on Blu-ray, as will naturally be the encoding, and
it is also possible to provide lossless audio.[1] In most instances, SD on
Blu-ray titles reuse previous DVD mastering and are done for the convenience of
having content that would otherwise span many DVDs on substantially fewer Blu-
ray discs.[2](e.g. The "SD on BD" release of Samurai Pizza Cats has all 52
episodes on a single disc rather than the 8 discs of previous DVD releases.)[3]

An example of an SD Blu-ray disc is Live at the Rainbow '74 by Queen. The
visual content, filmed for TV in 1974, does not meet normal Blu-ray standards,
yet it has been released in that format, allowing for the sound to be
reproduced in the best possible way.

__________

BD Blu-ray

Blu-ray or Blu-ray Disc (BD) is a digital optical disc data storage format. It
was designed to supersede the DVD format, and is capable of storing several
hours of video in high-definition (HDTV 720p and 1080p) and ultra high-
definition resolution (2160p). The main application of Blu-ray is as a medium
for video material such as feature films and for the physical distribution of
video games for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The name "Blu-
ray" refers to the blue laser (actually a violet laser) used to read the disc,
which allows information to be stored at a greater density than is possible
with the longer-wavelength red laser used for DVDs.

__________

Ultra HD Blu-ray

Ultra HD Blu-ray is a digital optical disc data storage format that supersedes
Blu-ray. Ultra HD Blu-ray discs are incompatible with existing Blu-ray
players. Ultra HD Blu-ray supports 4K UHD (3840 × 2160 resolution) video at
frame rates up to 60 frames per second, encoded using High Efficiency Video
Coding.

What a yawn. They're sticking to formatting the hell out of fans and their money if they want ABC extra instead of just doing what will happen eventually - and quickly - with YouTube - just give us the whole damn thing in one package if you really want anyone to BUY THE PACKAGE.

No wonder people are sick of buying hard copies. It's expensive, they don't last, and it certainly doesn't cost that much to make these damn hard copies.

The days of relying on a store for distribution are OVER as a whole. Amazon is essentially one giant record distribution label for music in whatever form.

If I buy this, in a hard copy format, it won't be at a store. As much as I love having a hard copy of a release, LP or video, digital has become the norm.
