OT: The surest route to a drummer’s heart? Cymbals

Nice read re Zildjian cymbals history. Does Mister Watts play these? Any Stones songs in which cymbals are predominantly used? I ask because I am a guitar person and haven't really paid strict attention to what the drummer is doing in a song.

This looks like an awesome article/ an art form I was unaware.

I have it saved for later to focus read,

But I did post a clip of Shelia E playing live Oakland, CA 2011 @ Prince Show
Drum solo best I’ve seen, Oakland her home town, Prince backstage singing backup so powerful
she flat out knocked over her cymbal stand at the end

Just heard Mr. Watt crashing hard on the cymbals perfectly perfectly
‘You Can’t Always Get What You Want’
Right over the soprano girls choir
CRASH CRASH CRASH

oh yes it's true, cymbals are like a religious cult among drummers smiling smiley

Charlie uses both Zildjian and UFIP.

I've been watching a video very recently with Charlie discussing his Gretsch kit and talking about the (unbranded?) Chinese cymbal he has on there - apparently they don't last very long before splitting, because they aren't meant to be used that way and hit as hard as Charlie does.

Why, the studio recorded track, my very old time long friends!
Buried over and over again in studio tracks only for a long time, my friend.
In fact, I’m wondering if there is a book called
‘Bootlegs for dummies’ 2018 version
and explains flac download etc
oh wait, bet utube made the book obsolete

Hey! Bet these drummers are quite the lovers >grinning smiley<
“You can have all the swirling harmony in the world,” the drummer Brian Blade said, “but only the cymbals can put you over the top of that mountain you’re trying to climb. The tension is the beauty of it, like riding a wave until you need it to crest.”

((sorry listening to a lot of Prince last few days lol))

That's why I asked. Because Charlie doesn't play on the studio version smiling smiley

But there is indeed some nice cymbal crashing on it..

Around 'Some Girls' and even more 'Emotional Rescue' Charlie redefined his approach to cymbals.
They started recording them differently, but more so he played them in a new way. I don't know if necessarily a better way. I liked how he used them on 'Satanic' and 'Banquet' e.g when he very much followed Jagger, the lyrics and vocal with his dynamics.
